A. ZOLDOSKE.
ROAD LEVELER.
(No Model.)

avl/vewlioz UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ANDREW ZOLDOSKE, OF EVERTON, MISSOURI.
ROAD-LEVELER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 469,956, dated March 1,1892.
Application filed. May 9, 1891. Serial No. 392,193. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ANDREW ZOLDOSKE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Everton, in the county of Dade and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Road-Levelers; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
My invention relates to improvements in road levelers or scrapers; and the object is the provisionof a road-leveler which will be of simple and durable construction, which will be adjustable in order to enable it to level or scrape roads of different widths, which will be light of draft and have the scrapers always rest on the surface of the ground to insure efficient work, and which can be produced at a very small price.
To attain the desired objects, myinvention consists of a road-leveler embodying the features of construction and combination of parts substantially as herein illustrated, described, and specifically claimed.
Figure l is a perspective view of a road leveler or scraper constructed in accordance with and embodying myinvention. Fig. 2 is a plan view, partly in section, with the sections of the leveler shown in dotted lines adjusted to different widths.
In the drawings, A and A represent the two sections or parts of my leveler, which are made of wood, preferably, and to the lower edge of each is attached the metal plate B and B, forming the scrapers, and said plates may be adj ustably secured, as at C, if desired, to cause said plates to cut deep into the ground or only make a shallow cut, as desired. The sections at one end are formed with or provided with hinges D, preferably bolts'with eyes, as shown, which allow a free movement of the sections, and at the other end the sections are each provided with a horizontally-arranged series of openings E. Through the adjusting iron -bar m which is attached the pole or shafts G, is passed a metal bar or rod H, the ends of which are threaded and passed through two of the openings E of the sections, and on the threaded ends of said rod or bar are placed oblique Washers J and securing-nuts J. By this construction it will be seen that the draftbeam is connected to the sections and that the rod may be connected with any two of the openings of the sections, and will thereby adjust the sections to different widths of road or surface. It will also be seen that the rod H forms a fulcrum for the draft connection G, thereby allowing for the movement of the horse or horses without danger of lifting the scraper from the ground, and also the ends of the draft-beam, as at F, are inclined, which causes the beam to fit smoothly against the sections. It will also be seen that a strong connection is provided between the rod and the sections and that the sections can be adjusted in a moments time, as circumstances require.
It is evident that I produce a road-leveler which is of very simple and cheap construction. that it can be easily drawn and is thoroughly eifective, that it can be adjusted with ease, and that is of durable construction.
I claim as my invention 1. A road leveler or scraper consisting of two sections hinged or pivoted together at one of their ends, a rod adjustably connecting their other ends, a draft-beam surrounding the rod, and draft connections fulcrumed on said rod, as set forth.
2. A road leveler or scraper consisting of two sections hinged or plVOtQdtt one of their ends, a rod adj ustably connecting their other ends, a draft-beam surrounding the rod, draft connections fulcrumed on the rod, and oblique washers and nuts on the ends of the rod, as set forth.
In testimony whereof Iaflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
ANDREV ZOLDOSKE. Witnesses:
