Description
I (NoModeL) H. W. ALTHOUSE.
BOILER TUBE. No. 469,731.
Patented Mar. 1, 1892.
C. P I i 1 k ATTEST/ faz UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HARRY W. ALTHOUSE, OF ASHLAND, PENNSYLVANIA.
BOILER-TUBE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 469,731, dated March 1, 1892.
Application filed July 14, 1891. Serial No- 399,525. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HARRY W. ALTHOUSE, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Ashland, in the county of Schuylkill andState of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Boiler-Tubes, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
My invention relates to boiler-tubes, and has for its object to provide a boilertube which will present the greatest radiating surface with reference to the diameter thereof; and it consists in the construction pointed out in the claims.
In the drawings, Figure l is a perspective View of my invention, partly in section. Fig. 2 is a cross-section through the line X X of Fig. 1.
Like letters and figures refer to the same parts throughout the several views.
My tubes are constructed with cylindrica ends 5, connected with tube-sheets A, and extending between the tube-sheets I provide inwardly-projecting longitudinal corrugations or wrinkles 7, so' arranged with reference to each other that between the depressions there are well-defined radiating surfaces, presenting three distinct radiating sides,as at 8, 9, and 10. By constructing the corrugations inwardly'projecting the outer diameter of the tube is not increased and the tube may be run into the tube-sheet without obstruction, and by confining the corrugations to the space between the tube-sheets, leaving the ends of the tubes smooth and cylindrical, a better fastening of the tube to the tube-sheets is attainable. The tube-sheets have cylindrical apertures for the reception of the smooth cylindrical ends of the tubes.
I am aware that boiler-tubes have been constructed with corrugations, and I do not a broadly claim such construction; but
What I do claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
H. IV. AL'IIIOUSE.
