Description

(ModeL) H. A. BOLZE. DOUBLE ACTING INJECTOR.
No. 469,674. Patented Mar. 1', 1892.
m w w w n I UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HEINRICH ATHANASIUS BOLZE, OF HANOVER, ASSIGNOR TO CARL GRONERT, OF BERLIN, GERMANY.
DOUBLE-ACTING l NJ ECTO R.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 469,674, dated March 1, 1892.
Application filed May 12, 1891. Serial No. 392,496. (ModeL) To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that l, HEINRICH ATHANASIUS BOLZE, a subject of the Emperor of Germany, residing in Hanover, Prussia, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Double-Acting Injectors, of which the following is a specification.
The operating of the inlet-valves is effected in the required succession by the turning of IO a spindle having its bearings in the casing between the injectors. These parts are so combined and proportioned that by the turning of the spindle the inlet-valves are opened by the aid of suitable means interposed ber 5 tween the cock-spindle and the valve-spindles. First one valve is opened and afterward also the other valve.
The accompanying drawings form apart of this specification and represent what I consider the best means of carrying out the invention.
Figure 1 shows a section through the center of the injector. Fig. 2 shows a section on line so as in Fig. 1, and Fig. 3 on line y 'y.
2 5 Figs. 4, 5, and 6 show the positions of the plug of the starting-cock relatively to the positions of the valves.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures where they 0 appear.
The starting-cock a is provided with a spindle b, on which is fixed adisk b, having a cam or projection b which operates a cross-head c by acting in a correspondingly-rising groove 3 5 of the same. The cross-heads is operated by its left arm 0' in a hollow of the valve-spindle d and by the right arm 0 in a hollowof the valve-spindle c. There is some play allowed in the latter, as shown in Figs. 1 and 4. In
40 these figures the valves of the injector are closed. By turning the spindle or shaft b from the position of Fig. 4 into the position of Fig. 5 the action of disk I) on the crosshead a raises the latter so much as will open the valve d, and the injector A is put into operation for sucking the liquid and forwardingit through the cock-canals a a into the open air. By further turning the cock out of its position in Fig. 5 into the position in Fig. 6 the cross-head c is further lifted, and thereby the valves d e are wholly opened and the cock canals a a a closed. By the same movement the cock-canal a, and thereby the apparatus A, is closed; but at the same time the cock-canal a and valve e are opened, thereby bringing also the injector B to a sucking action. Meantime the injector A will conduct the liquid under 'a certain pressure through the openings f in the direction of arrow I to the injector B, whereupon the liquid from the injector B, under a corresponding increase of pressure, is conducted through the openings 9 in the direction of arrow II to the boiler-tube h, provided with a self-acting return-valve h.
I claim as my invention 1. In a double injector, the spindle having the escape cook or gate a and disk 1), provided with cam 17 in combination with the cross-head c, mounted upon said spindle and having a recess engaging the cam b and the valves having recesses of unequal height engaging the arms of the cross-head, whereby said valves shall be actuated at different periods of the rotation of the spindle, substantially as set forth.
2. The combination of the casing having the passages A B, spindle Z, having the gatecock at and cam-disk b, the cross-head c, and the valves, the stems of which are provided with recesses engaging the ends of said crosshead, said recesses being of unequal height, substantially as and for the purpose set fort-h.
In testimony that I claim the invention above set forth I afiix my signature in presonce of two witnesses.
HEINRIOH ATHANASIUS BOLZE.
