\VILLIAM J. MEOKE, OF CAMDEN, NEXV JERSEY.
W ALKlNG-STILT.
I SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 469,641, dated February 23, 1892.
Application filed October 5, 1891.
To all whom it may concern.-
.Be it known that I, WILLIAM J. MECKE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Camden, inthe county of Camden and State of New Jersey, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Walking-Stilts, of which the following is a specification.
The object of my invention is a walkingstilt'the step of which can'be readily adjusted on the pole for persons of varying heights.
The invention consists in the combination, with a notched pole, of a step recessed to fit over the inner side of the pole, and is composed of a back to which is fitted a tread supported by a bracket between it and the back and fillets in the intersection of said back and tread on both sides of the bracket. A suspender carries and holds the step in intimate contact with the pole by dropping into the notches and springing its loose ends into openings formed in the fillets.
0n reference to the accompanying sheet of drawings, forming part of this specification, Figure 1 is a side view of a stilt embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is an outside view of the pole, showing its notches. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the step, and Fig. 4 is a plan View of the suspender.
Similar letters refer to similar parts in the several views.
A is the pole of the stilt, which is notched in its outer side, as shown at a b.
B is the step, recessed at c to fit over the pole, by which an intimate contact is ob- Serial No. 407,707. (No model.)
tained and the step braced against turning. Said step is com posed of the back d, tread e, supporting-bracket f between the back and tread, and fillets g, fitted in the intersection of the back and tread on opposite sides of the bracket.
0 is a rectangular suspender, preferably of metal, which is open at one of its sides for forming the opposing ends 72. hen the step B is suitably adjusted on the pole A, the suspender O is passed over said pole, so as to embrace it and the step by dropping its closed side into either of the notches a b and springing its loose ends it into the openingsi of the step-fillets g, by which the pole and step are held in contact.
I claim In a walking-stilt, the combination of a pole A, which is notched in its outer side at a Z), an adjustable step 13, composed of the re cessed back d, tread e, supporting-bracket f, fillets g, and an open suspenderC, which embraces the pole and step and binds them in intimate contact by dropping its closed side into the notches of the pole and springing its loose ends it into the openings t'of the fillets, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
