Description

NITE STATES ATENT OFFICE.
HENRY JACKSON DAVIS, VOF GOOD VATER, ALABAMA, ASSIGNOR OF ONE- FOURTH TO ZAOHERIAI-I D. MCCORDJXND BENJAMIN A. MCCORD, OF
SAME PLACE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 468,909, dated February 16, 1892.
' Application filed November 9, 1891. Serial No. L11,309. (No model.)
To @ZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY JACKSON DA- VIS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Good lVater, in the county of Coosa and ed to secure plow-handles and a standard to` a beam and capable of enabling a standard to be readily adjusted without removing the parts to regulate the depth of the plow.
The invention consists in the construction and novel combination and arrangement of parts-hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and pointed out in the claims hereto appended.
In the drawings, Figure l is a perspective view of a plow provided with clamps embodying the invention. Fig. 2 is a sectional View taken longitudinally of the clamp. Fig. 3 is a similar view taken transversely of the clamp. Fig. 4 is a detail perspective view of one of the clamps.
Like numerals of reference indicate like parts in all the figures .of the drawings.
l 1 designate clamps constructed of suitable metal and arranged on opposite, sides of a plow-beam 2 and attached to the same by bolts 3 and adapted to secure to the beam plow-handles 4 and a standard 5 and to enable the latter to be readily adjusted to regulate the depth of the cut of the plow. Each clamp is provided with an inclined Way or socket 6 to receive a plow-.handle and has iianges 7 arranged on opposite sides of the way or socket and is provided with a curved way or socket S to receive one side 9 of a plowstandard. The flanges 7 are provided with perforations to receive the bolts for securing the clamps to the beam and have integral segmental extensions 10 to increase the length of a curved way or socket S. The handlebars 4 have their lower ends recessed on their inner faces at 1l to permit the passage and adjustment of the sides of the standard and are engaged by points 12, formed integral with the clamps and arranged on'the inner faces of the same. The standard is composed of the two sides 9, which are parallel at their upper ends and form a continuous curve in order to move freely inv the curved ways or sockets and are adjusted longitudinally by loosening thevbolts 3 and do not necessitate the removal of the clamps.
It will be seen that the clamps are simple and comparatively inexpensive in construction and secure both the handle-bars and the standard to the plow-beam, and that they are capable of preventing the handles splitting and of permitting the standard to be readily adj usted.
From the foregoing description and the accompanying drawings the construction, operation, and advantages of the-invention will be readily understood.
IVhat I claim is- 1. The combination, with a plow-beam, plowhandles, and a standard composed of two sides, of a clamp bolted to the beam and provided with inclined ways or sockets to -receive the plow-handles and having ways or sockets arranged at an angle to the other sockets and adapted for the reception of the sides of the standard, substantially as described.
2. The combinatiomwith a plow-beam, p1owhandles, and a standard composed of curved sides, of clamps secured to the beam and provided with an inclined socket and having anges arranged on opposite sides of the socket and provided yvith a curved socket arranged at an angle to the handle-socket to receive a side of the standard, substantially as described.
3. Thecombination,withaplow-beam,plow
handles provided with recesses near their HENRY JACKSON DAVIS.
