CENTER SUPPORT OR HANGER.

To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, THOMAS W. SNELL, of Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented a new and Improved Center Support or Hanger, of which the fol lowing is a full, clear, and exact description.
The object of the invention is to provide a new and improved device for supporting centers for masonry, arches, floors, and the like, and which is simple and durable in construciion, can be readily applied and easily adjusted to support the center at the proper place.
The invention consists of a chain carrying a cross-bar adapted to engage the center, a bolt provided with a hook adapted to be engaged by the said chain, and a cross'beam adapted to carry the said bolt.
The invention also consists of certain parts and details and combinations of the same, as will be fully described hereinafter, and then pointed out in the claims.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a partof this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both the figures.
Figure 1- is a side elevation of the improvement as applied, parts being in section; and Fig. 2 is a plan view of the same.
The improved center support or hanger comprises a bolt A, formed on its lower end with a hook B, and passing at its upper end through a transverselyextending slot C, formed in the cross-beam C, which is supported on the I-beams D, extending at right angles to the cross-beam C. The upper end of the bolt A passes through a washer E, held on top of the cross-beam C, as is plainly shown in the drawings, the said washer being engaged on top by the nut F of the bolt A, so as to raise or lower it.
The hook Bis adapted to be engaged by one of the twisted links of a chain G,'eXtending downward therefrom and passing through a longitudinal slot II, formed in the center II, of anyapproved construction. The lowermost link in the chain G supports the crossbar I, adapted to engage the under side of the center H and having its end I turned slightly upward, so as to prevent displacement of the cross-bar on the under side of the center H.

It is understood that the chain G is first adjusted on the hook B, so as to bring the center II as near to its correct place as possible, and then by adjusting the nut F to raise or lower the bolt A the chain G, bar I, and the center I'I supported thereon, are brought to the exact position.
My center support or hanger always passes through the center of the arch in the tilecourse, and a hole is always left from nine to eighteen inches long by six to nine inches wide, and this hole is filled up after the centers are dropped.
It will be seen that this device is very simple and durable in construction and can be readily applied and easily adjusted to support the center at the proper place. The device can also be conveniently folded. up for transportation from one place to another.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. A center support or hanger comprising a chain carrying a cross-bar adapted to engage the center, a bolt provided with a hook adapted to be engaged by the said chain, and a cross-beam for carrying the said bolt, substantially as shown and described.
2. In a center support or hanger, the combination, with a slotted cross-beam, of a bolt passing through the slot of the said crossbeam and having its nut resting on a washer held on top of the said cross-beam, a chain engaging a hook on the lower end of the said bolt, and a cross-piece held on the said chain and adapted to engage the center to support the latter, substantially as shown and described.
