MILK-CAN.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 468,594, dated February 9, 1892.

To aZZ whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, VILLIAM I-I. BUCKLEY, Jr., a citizen of the United States, residing in the city and county of Philadelphia, State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Milk-Cans, which improvement is fully set forth in the following specification and accompanying drawings.

My invention consists of a 1nilk-can which is supported or mounted in such manner that its removability is controlled by a door, gate, shutter, or other object against which a portion of the supporting or holding mechanism is adapted to abut.

It also consists of the construction of the can so that when mounted or supported the contents of the same may not be dipped out or otherwise readily withdrawn, even should the lid be removed.

Figure 1 represents a perspective view of a device embodying my invention. Fig. 2 represents a front view of portions of upper and lower sections of a milk-can, showing a looking device for said sections. Fig. 3 represents a top view of a plate with guides and bolt, the latter for holding or supporting a can, also a portion of the can with its connecting means. Fig. 4 represents a horizontal sectional view on line (I? :c,Fig. 1, having in addition a door closed against the bolt. Fig. 5

Referring to the drawings, A designates the frame of a door B, to which the holder 0 is secured in anysuitable manner. The said holder 0 is formed of an attaching-plate D, having 011 its lower end a horizontally-projeoting flange E, provided with an upwardly-projecting lip F. Above the said flange E and connecting with the said plate is a horizontally-projecting piece G, which, with flange E,is for a purpose hereinafter set forth. Movable on the plate D in guides His the bolt J for supporting and looking a milk or other can K to the plate D. The said can K is formed of two sections L and M, the upper section L being adapted to set in and be secured to the lower section M.

On opposite sides of the upper section L are secured the horizontallyprojecting flanges N, each provided with a head or stop P at one end thereof, so as to limit the movement of the upper section on the lower section in one direction, and on corresponding parts of said lower section M are secured the pieces Q and R, the former, or Q, consisting of a plate with a grooved way for the entrance of one of the flanges N and the latter or piece R, which forms means for connecting the can with the holder 0 and the locking-bolt J, having a socket portion R adapted to receive the lip F of the flange E, and thereby assist in supporting the can on said holder. The piece R has also a boss portion S adapted to receive the bolt J, which, when inserted therein, both supports and locks the can on the holder. The said holder C is so secured to the frame Athat the doorB when closed abuts against one end of the bolt, preventing the movement of the latter in its guides, thereby adapting it to hold the can in place thereon and prevent its removal therefrom until the movement of the door, gate, &c., permits the shooting back of the said bolt from out the boss S. The flange or piece G serves to guide the can in fitting the piece R on the lip F of the holder and to hold the same in such position that the bolt can readily enter the openin g in the boss S. The extension of the flange N, which operates in the grooved way of the piece R, is adapted to abut againsta projecting piece T on the holder 0, so as to prevent the turning or rotation of the upper section L, and thereby the release of the flanges N from the grooved ways of. the pieces Q and R and consequent removal of the said upper section from the lower section. The said section L has a partition-wall U across its bottom, one side V of the latter being perforated and the other side WV having an opening X at its edge. Beneath the perforated portion of the section L a supplemental can or receptacle Y is detachably secured in anysuitable manner to the inner side of the lower section, and at a short distance below the said openlng X and extending across the same a dcflector Z is secured to the said lower section, the can Y thus being adapted to receive cream, &c., poured in the perforated portion of the upper section, while the lower sect-ion M receives the milk poured in the portion WV. A lid A of usual construction covers the upper sections.

In Figs. 8, 9, and 10 is shown a modification of the holder and locking device, the holder being in sections A B, so as to be adapted .to be placed on the opposite sides of anornamental or projecting panel, and the guides at the inner end of theholderconsisting of bosses O D, one of which has its upper portion cut away or removed, and the other having its under portion cut away, forming hooks in which a bolt Works, so that when the bolt E is removedfrom engagement with boss E of the can and the other guides it can be readily removed from the said guides C and D, and thereby from the holder, so as to be adapted to be taken within the house along with the can.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim'as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

1. A milk-can with a projecting boss, an attaching-plate, and a bolt movable in said plate and adapted to engage in said boss, substantially as described.

2. A milk-can having an apertured boss in connection therewith, means for securing the cover to the can, a holder, and a bolt in said holder adapted to directly engage said boss and be locked by abutting against a door, said parts being combined substantially as described.

3. A holder or support adapted to be secured to a frame, 'a can having a device to engage and rest on said holder, an apertured boss, and a bolt attached to said frame adjacent to the holder and adapted to directly engage the said boss and hold the can in secured position to the holder, said parts being combined substantially as described.

4. A holder adapted to be secured to a frame and having a projecting portion for supporting a can thereon, a bolt, and a can with an attached piece adapted to rest on said projecting portion of the holder and provided with a boss to receive the said bolt, said bolt both supporting and locking said can, said parts being combined substantially as described.

5. A holder with a bolt movable therein, a can having upper and lower sections, one of which is provided with an apertured boss to be directly engaged by said bolt, a supporting-piece attached to the lower section and connected with the holder, and an extension on the upper section adapted to abut against a projection on the holder to prevent the removal of the upper section from the lower one, said parts being combined substantially as described.

6. A holder with a removable bolt and a rest and a can with a supporting-piece to engage said rest and having a boss to receive said bolt, said parts being combined substantially as described.

7. In a device for the purpose named, a holder having a projecting portion with a lip,

a bolt movable in guides on said holder, and

a can engaged by said lip and said bolt, said parts being combined substantially as described.

8. In a device for the purpose named, a can consisting of upper and lower sections, the upper section having horizontal flanges with extensions at one end thereof provided with beads or stops, and the lower section having attached pieces or plates having horizontal grooved ways and flanges, and means, as set forth, for securing said can to a support overlapping the aforesaid horizontal flanges, substantially as described.

9. In a device for the purpose named, a can consisting of an upper section with horizontal flanges having extensions at one end and a lower section with ways for said flanges, means secured to said lower section for connecting it with a holder, and a boss on said can for receiving alocking-bolt, said parts being combined substantially as described.

10. In a device for the purpose named, a can consisting of an upper section with perforations in its bottom and provided with a cover and a lower section detachably secured to said upper section and having a supplemental can detachably secured to its inner side, substantially as described.

11. In a device for the purpose named, a can consisting of an upper section with a partition-wall forming two apartments, one of which has a perforated bottom and the other has an opening near its edge, a lower sec- ICC tion with a deflector below said opening, and A a supplemental can below said perforated portion, said parts being combined substantially as described.
