SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 468,179, dated February 2, 1892.

Be it known that I, IVILLIAM A. KEAHEY, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Garnett, in the county of Lincoln and State of Arkansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Plows; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to'which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification.

My invention relates to improvements in what are known as double-shovel plows, the object being to provide a simple and economical construction of the same, whereby the sheths carrying the shovels may be laterally adjusted so as to vary the distance between the furrows turned thereby.

The invention consists in the novel construction and combinations of parts hereinafter fully described and claimed.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of a plow constructed in accordance with my invention. Fig. 2 is a detail view of the device for adj ustably connecting the sheths, and Fig. 3 is a sectional View ot' the sheth-adjusting devices.

In the said drawings the reference-numeral 1 designates the plow-beam, which may be provided with an ordinary colter. To the rear end of this beam is connected the front ends of the sheths 3, made of spring metal and having their rear ends curved downwardly and provided with the shovels 4.

The numerals 5 5 designate the handles, having their front ends connected with the sheths by means of clips 6 6. Intermediate of their ends these handles are connected with the curved portions of the sheths by means of arms 7 7, secured to the latter at their lower ends and having their upper ends provided with a series of holes or apertures S 8, through which and the handles pass bolts or pins 9 9, by which they are adj ustably secured thereto, so as to vary the height of the shovels.

Intermediate of the front ends of the handles and the arms 7 7 is an adjustable device for laterally adjusting the distance of the sheths from each other. This device consists of two metallic plates l0 10, the outer ends of which are bent downwardly and then in- Serial No. 392.993. (No model.) t

thereby preventing the said plates twisting one upon the other should by any possible means the clip or clamp 16 slide past the end of the lower plate. The plates are also provided with screw-bolts 17 17, which pass therethrough and through the inwardly-bent ends, whereby they are securely attached to the sheths.

The operation will be readily understood. lVhen it is desired to increase the distance between the furrow formed by the shovels, the bolt 14 is loosened by removing the nut 15 by means of a wrench 1S, allowing said bolt to be withdrawn. The sheths are then spread apart, and when the required distance has been reached the bolt is again inserted in the apertures in the plate and secured in place by the binding-nut.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim is- In a plow, the combination, with the beam, the spring-sheths secured thereto and provided with shovels, the handles secured to said sheths by the clips, and the adjustable arms, of the adjustable plates having downwardly and inwardly turned outer ends overlapping each other and provided with a series of registering apertures, the inner end of one ot' said plates being provided with an upturned lip to project into one of the apertures in the other plate, the bolts and nuts for securing said plates together, and the bolts and nuts for securing said plates to the sheths, substantially as described. f
