EJEGTOR MECHANISM FOR BREAKDOWN GUNS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 467,300, dated January 19, 1892.
Application filed March 24, 1891. Serial No. 386,283. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, THOMAS PERKES, a subject of the Queen of Great Britain, residing at 7 O Osnaburgh Street, Regents Park, London, England, have invented new and useful Improvements in Breech-Loading Small- Arms, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in that class of breech-loading small-arms known as ejector-guns, and has for its object to impart a dual action to the cocking-lever, whereby it simultaneously cooks the tumbler and actuates the ejecting mechanism. This I efiect by means of an extension formed on the box or frame that carries the ejecting mechanism and of a slide working in conjunction with and actuated by the cookinglever.
In the accompanying drawings, Figures 1 and 2 show views in side elevation of an ejectorgun fitted with my improvements, only so much of the gun being shown as is necessary to illustrate the application of my invention thereto. Fig. 3 shows detail views, in side elevation and plan, of the box or frame that carries the ejecting mechanism; and Figs. 4 and 5 show detail views of the slide and cocking-lever above referred to.

A is a box fitted to the fore-end of the gun, wherein the ejecting mechanism, consisting of ejector-spring d, ejecting-lever e, catch f, and catch-spring g, is mounted. This box is furnished at the back with one or more extensions a, (one for each barreh) each of which extensions acts as a lever to cook the gun, as presently described.
B is the cocking-lever, working on a pivot b and having a slot Z1 formed therein. 0 is a slide having a lateral projection 0 formed thereon, which engages with and rests in the slot 1) and by means whereof the slide C is operated to and fro by the cocking-lever B. If desired, the arrangement of the slot and projection may be reversed-that is to say,
the projection may be formed on the cookinglever B and the slot in the slide 0; but in either case the mechanical action will be identical. The fore end of the slide C terminates in a nose 0, which on tilting the barrels after firing the gun engages with the back of the catchf. In so doing it withdraws the catch from'the bent e in the ejecting-lever 6, thus releasing such lever to operate the extractor h to eject the spent cartridge, as shown in Fig. 2. At the same time the extension a on the box A is forced against the cocking-lever B, thus causing such lever to cock the tumbler. On closing the gun the catch f, by the action of the catch-spring re-engages with the bent e in the ejectinglever e, as shown in Fig. 1, while the fall of the tumbler, acting upon the cocking-lever B, sends the slide 0 forward into position, ready to act upon the catch f in the manner already described, when the gun is again opened. In a gun having two or more barrels each barrel is fitted with a duplicate arrangement of my improved cocking and actuating mechanism, as hereinbefore described.

The combination, with the box provided with a projection a, of the spring-actuated ejector-lever pivoted in said box and provided with the bent e, the spring-actuated catchf, also pivoted in the box and engaging with the bent e, the pi voted cocking-lever B, adapted to be operated bythe projection a, and the slide 0, articulated to the lever B and provided with the nose 0, adapted to engage with the back of the catch f on tilting the barrel after firing the gun, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
