Description

(No Model.) 1
E. W.v PAR-NO. WATCH POCKET.
No. 466,292 Patented Dec. 29, 1891.
11/22 22155 868 Invezz/or UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
EMIL W. PARNO, OF GREENE, IOWA, ASSIGNOR TO AUGUSTA C. PARNO AND REUBEN G. TYLER, OF SAME PLACE.
WATCH-POCKET.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 466,292, dated December 29, 1891. Application filed October 22, 1891. Serial No. 409,476. (No mocleL) To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EMIL W. PARNO, a citizen of the United States, residing at Greene, in the county of Butler and State of Iowa, have in vented certain new and useful Improvements in Dust-Proof Watch-Pockets; andI do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to a fob or supplemental watch-pocket; and the novelty will be fully understood from the following description and claim when taken in connection with the annexed drawings, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of the improved pocket. Fig. 2 is a vertical transverse sectional View of the same, and Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the rin removed from the chamois-skin.
In carryingout my invention Itake a pocketshaped piece of chamois-skin and provide the same with a slit or opening in its bottom, as, shown at a. This slit or opening may be formed in a single piece of material, or it may be formed by stitching two similar pieces I) b together, as shown at c.
In making the pocket of a single piece there would be but one vertical side stitch, and the lower slitted edges d I turn upwardly on opposite sides with the ring A interposed. This ring- A, which is preferably formed of metal, affords a passage for dirt or any foreign substance Which would otherwise have a tendency to accumulate in the pocket and work into the watch or scratch its case.
It is obvious that the ring which I have shown as surrounding the opening or slit in the bottom of the pocket and secured in position by stitches 7 may be secured in various ways, and I do not wish to be understood as confining myself to any particular manner of securing the ring around the base-opening of the pocket.
In use the pocket or fob may be stitched at its upper edge or mouth in the pocket of a dress or other garment.
It has heretofore been proposed to provide a pocket with a fob or supplemental pocket having perforations in its bottom and lower sides to prevent, to a certain extent, the accumulation of dust and other impurities; but such construction has been found objectionable, inasmuch as the perforations, while per mitting impurities of a certain character to pass out of the pocket, will ofier an obstruction and hold such things as coins. It should be observed in the construction which I have illustrated that the slit in the bottom of the pocket is sufficiently large for the passage of any coin, and by the employment of the metal ring secured in the slit the mouth is always held open for the free discharge of coins and the like into the mainpocket.
Having described my invention, what I claim is a Afob or supplemental pocket having a slit or opening in its bottom for the purposes de scribed, and the metallic ring secured in said slit, so as to keep the same open, substantially as specified.
In testimony whereof I aflix mysignature in presence of two witnesses.
EMIL \V. PARNO.
