TABLE-LEAF SUPPORT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 466,005, dated December 29,1891.
Application filed ll lay 9, 1891.. Serial No. 392,142. (No model.)
To all whom it may-concern.-
Be it known that I, PETER ALBERT EOK- LUND, a citizen of the United States, residing at Dracut, in the county of Middlesex and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Table-Leaf Support, of which the following is a specification.
The invention relates to improvements in table-leaf supports.
The object of the present invention is to provide a simple and inexpensive table-leaf support which will be self-acting when the leaf is raised and which can be readily released to lower the leaf.
The invention consists in the construction and novel combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and pointed out in the claim hereto appended.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a vertical sectional View of a table provided with a table leaf support constructed in accordance with this invention. Fig. 2 is a similar View showing the leaf let down. Fig. 3 is a detail perspective view of the curved brace. Fig. 4 is a detail perspective view of the loop-plate. Fig. 5 is a detail perspective view of the adjustable plate. Fig. 6 is a detail section to show how the shoulders on the brace engage the loop.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, 1 designates a table having a hinged leaf 2, adapted to form a continuation of the table when raised, and when not in use is designed to be lowered, as illustrated in Fig. 2 of the accompanying drawings. The hinged leaf 2 has secured to its lower face a loop-plate 3, which is provided with an integral loop 4, adapted to receive the free end of a curved brace 5, which is pivoted between perforated ears 6 of an adjustable plate 7. The adjustable plate 7 is provided with an opening 8, through which passes a screw or bolt to secure the plate to the table 1, and the perforated ears are arranged on opposite sides of the opening 8, and the plate 7 is provided on its inner face with projections 9 to engage the table and prevent the plate turning on the bolt. The brace is longitudinally curved and is provided at one end with a solid portion 10, and consists of spring sides 11, arranged parallel with each other and provided near their free ends with shoulders 12. The shoulders 12 are arranged on the outer faces of the sides and are adapted to engage the loop at of the plate 3 to hold the loop in a horizontal position, and the sides 11 are adapted to be forced together to carry the shoulders into and out of engagement with the loop, and when the leaf is'raised the sides will automatically spring apart and engage the loop.
It will be seen that the table-leafsupport is simple and inexpensive in construction and adapted to be readily attached to a table and to spring automatically in operative position when the leaf is raised, and that it may be readily disengaged from the loop-plate when it is desired to lower the leaf.
The loop 4 may be in the form of an ordinary staple and the curved brace may be pivotally attached to the table in any desirable manner.
What I claim is The combination, with a table having a hinged leaf, of the plate 7, provided with perforated ears and with projections arranged on its inner face and having an adjusting-slot arranged between the ears to receive a bolt for securing the plate to the table, the plate 3, provided on its inner face with projections secured to the leaf and provided With an in- A clined loop 4, the inclination of which is inward, and the brace pivoted between said ears and provided with spring sides to engage the loop 4 and being curved at its'free end at the point of engagement with the leaf, whereby it is enabled to stand severe strain without breaking. substantially as described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto affixed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
PETER ALBERT ECKLUND.
