N M (l I.) r o e G. E. VILLARET & v. E. RONDEL.
INGANDESGEN T ELECTRIC LAMP FIXTURE- No. 465,684. Patented Dec. 22, 1891.
WITNESSES UNITED STATES PATENT OEFicE.
GUSTAVE E. VILLARET AND VICTOR E. RONDEL, OF PHILADELPHIA,
- PENNSYLVANIA.
INCANDESCENT-ELECTRlC-LAMP FIXTURE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 465,684, dated December 22, 1891.
Application filedMay 23, 1891. Serial No. 393,917. (No model.)
To all whom, it may concern.-
Be it known that we, GUSTAV E E. VILLARET and VICTOR E. RONDEL, citizens of the United States, both residingin the city and county of Philadelphia, State of Pennsylvania, have inr vented a new and useful Improvementin Adjustable Fittings for Electrical Fixtures, which improvement is fully set forth in the following specification and accompanying drawings.
Our invention consists of the novel con struction of a fitting for an electrical fixture, as hereinafter particularly set forth.
Figure 1 represents a face View of the holder embodied in our invention. Figs. 2 and 3 represent, respectively, side and sectional views of the said holder. Fig. 4 represents a face view of the supportingplate. Fig. 5 represents a perspective View of the fitting.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the several figures.
Referring to the drawings, A designates a holder for an electric light, consisting of a socket B, to which the electric light is attached, and arms 0, connecting the said socket with an annulus or ring D, having on its inner periphery recesses E.
F designates aplate which is provided with openings G, through which screws or nails are inserted into a wall, ceiling, or other support, so as to attach it thereto in such manner that it can easily be removed therefrom when desired. On the periphery of the plate F are projecting lugs I-I, over which the ring D of the holder is passed at the recesses E when connecting said parts, the ring being then turned so that portions thereof not recessed rest behind the said lugs, the lugs, which may be said to be raised from the plate F, thus being over or on the front face of the annulus, it being noticed that the long diameter of the plate F is slightly less than the short diameter of the annulus D, so that the outer periphery of said plate rides on the inner periphery of the annulus. The spaces 0 between the sides of the arms and the opposite portions of the inner periphery of the an nulus permit the annulus to pass over the plate F and the subsequent rotation of said annulus, so that the lugs are in front of the annulus to lock the latter on the plate, while the annulus and parts are supported on the peripheries of the plate, the arms and annulus forming in a measure a spider which is set out or of convex form, producing a chamber 0 behind the front socket B for the reception and manipulation of the ends of the wires that are to be connected with the electriclight or lamp. In order to detach the holder from the plate, the ring is turned so thatthe recesses and lugs coincide, when the ringcan be slipped orpassed over the said lugs and thereby removed. The electric wires pass through a central opening J in the plate and through the ring D and the socket B.
The device as described forms a convenient and inexpensive means for detachably securing an electriclight to a suitable support, being simple in character and readily put in place or detached for removal with little or no wear of connecting parts.
Having thus described our invention, what we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A fitting for an electric fixture, consisting of a plate with a central. opening and raised lugs and an annulus having recesses in its inner periphery, arms connected with said annulus, and a socket on said arms, the arms being set out from the annulus, forming a chamber rearward 0f the socket, with spaces between the sides of said arms and opposite portion of the inner periphery of the annulus, thelong diameter of the plate being less than the short diameter of the annulus, said parts being combined substantially as described.
In testimony whereof we affix our signatures in presence of two witnesses.
GUSTAVE E. VILLARET. VICTOR E. RONDEL. WV itnesses:
