GUY V. BARNES, OF KITTRELL, NORTH CAROLINA, ASSIGNOR TO HIMSELF AND .I. M. BURROVS, OE SAME PLACE.
TOY.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 465,071, dated December 15, 1891.
Application filed November 5, 1890. Serial No. 370,389. (No model.)
To all whom i2? may concern.- struction; but in the annexed drawingslhave Be it known that I, GUY V. BARNES, a citishown a jointed figure representing a monkey zen of the United States, residing at Kittrell, 13 and comprising simply a trunk or body, in the county of Vance and State of North to'which the leg-pieces and arm-pieces are Carolina, have invented certain new and use pivotally secured, the ends of the arm-pieces 5 5 fullmprovementsin Toys; andIdo hereby derepresenting the hands or paws being pivotclare that the following is a full, clear, and eX- ally secured to the upper end of the standactdescription of the invention, which will ard, while the feet are pivotally connected enable others skilled in the art to which it apwith a block 15, which is adapted to slide IO pertains to make and use the same. upon the standard and guide the movement This invention relates to that class of toys of the figure. In this construction the pitwhich may be designated as trundles, and man 14 is pivotally connected with the block ithas particular relation to an improved trunat its upper end and with the trundle-wheel dle toy which is adapted to automatically opat its lower end, as shown in the drawings. 15 erate as a child wheels or pushes the trundle, 'The block 15 maybe mounted upon and consubstantially as hereinafter set forth. nected to the standard in any suitable man- The object of my invention is to providea ner, but is preferably provided with a consimple and improved toy of this character, cave inner face, which restsagainstthestandwhich will possess advantages in point of inard, and with a band or strip 16, embracing l 20 expensiveness and economy in manufacture, the latter and having its ends secured. to the l simplicityand durabilityinconstruction, posiblock, the standard being preferably cylini tive operation, and general efficiency, and drical to accommodate this construction and which can be placed upon the market at a arrangement. comparativelysmallexpenseand sold cheaply. In Fig. 8 I have illustrated a modification 25 In the drawings, forming a part of this in which a double toy is formed by the emspecification, Figure 1 is a perspective view ployment of two trundle-wheels and two of my improved toy. The end of the stick or handle being also connected with and operated by 10, which is of course of sufficient length, is a pitman 14, attached to the trundle-wheel held in the hand of the child and the toy and reciprocated thereby. The figure may pushed forward upon the pavement through 50 be of any suitable or desired form and conthe medium of the trundle-wheel. The lat- 10o ter travels upon the ground, and by its revolutions reciprocates the pitman to cause the movement and operation of the jointed figure.
I do not Wish to be understood as limiting myself to the exact construction and arrangement of parts, as herein shown and specified, as various modifications maybe manifestly made without departing from the spirit and scope of my invention. For instance, a seesaw figure could be pivotally mounted upon the standard and reciprocated or operated by connection with the pitman, and I therefore reserve the right to all modifications as properly fall within the spirit and scope of my invention.
Having thus described my invention, 1 claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States An improved trundle-toy of the class described, comprising a carrying stick or frame cut operating-block, the figure being transversely mounted and adapted to operate transversely with relation to the line of movement of" the toy, and a pitman connected directly to the independent operating-block and the trundle-wheel, whereby the movement of the figureis in a plane transverse to the length of the toy, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony WhereofI aifix my signature in presence of two Witnesses.
I GUY V. BARNES. Witnesses:
