To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, ALFRED BITTER J UR- NITSCHEK VON WEHRsrED'r, a subject of the Emperor of Austria, residing at Vienna, in the Province of Lower Austria, in the Empire of Austria-Hungary, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cartridge Loading Frames for Repeating-Guns and other Hand Fire-Arms; and I do hereby declare the following to beafull,clear,ai 1d exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.

This invention relates to cartridge-holders for use with magazine fire-arms, and has for its object a construction of holder that is readily introduced into the magazine of a tirearm, that is light and very compact; and it consists in the construction of the holder, as will be fully described hereinafter, and as shown in the accompanying drawings, in whiel1 Figure l is a side elevation, and Fig. 2 a longitudinal section, of a holder filled with cartridges and embodying my invention. Fig. 3 is a top view; Fig. 4, a perspective view, and Fig. 5 a transverse section thereof.

The holder A is preferably constructed of light sheet metal and of a single piece, and consists of the two wings or checks 6L2, bent inwardly at their upper and lower ends to properly retain the cartridges, and of a back or bridge a, connecting said wings,said back or bridge being U-shaped in section to form a vertical groove (Z for securing the same on a pin arranged in the magazine of a gun of my invention and for guiding the holder when acted upon by the ejector to eject the empty holder from the magazine.

At the rear or bridge end of the wings is formed a vertical groove a for the flanges of the cartridges, so that when the latterare inserted in the holder their flanges will lie in contact with one another, whereby the cartridges are properiy guided in introducing the same into the holder, and from the latter into the receiver of the gun, so that the magazine may be loaded from either side of the gun, which cannot be done with the holders now in use so far as I have a knowledge of them. The peculiar or U form of the connecting back or bridge a imparts also a greater elasticity to the wings a than would be the case with a square back, the holderbeing sub stantially a spring-clamp, and consequently holding the cartridge more firmly than would be the case otherwise.

It will be seen that the wings or, more properly, the jaws to of the holder A are comparatively narrow, extending buta little over one-third of the cartridge-shell,and when the holder is constructed of light sheet metal it will add but little to the weight of the cartridge which for military purposes is of the greatest importance, while the cost thereof is very materially reduced.

The described holder is particularly designed for use with breech-loaders in which the magazine is located immediately below the receiver and in which suitable provisions are made to hold the holder until emptied of its contents, and in which suitable ejecting devices are provided for ejecting the empty holder. Such a fire-arm forms the subjectmatter of my application for patent of even date with this and hereinabove referred to, yet I do, however, not desire to limit the use of the holder to such fire-arm,asit is obvious that it may be used with any breech-loading magazine fire-arms.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new therein,and desire tosecure by Letters Patent, is

A sheet-metal cartridge-holder for magazine-guns, consistingof a receptacle having two sides converging at their upper andlower edges and connected by a back a, in which is formed a groove (1, extending centrally along
