DRESSING FOR CARRIAGE-TOPS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 464,905, dated December 8, 1891.
Application filed June 19, 1891. Serial No. 396,833. (No specimens.)
T0 01/ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM HENRY TOWN- SIN, a citizen of the United States, residing at San Jos, in the county of Santa Clara and State of California, haveinvented certain new and useful Improvements in a Dressing for Carriage-Tops; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of theinvention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to compositions for dressing or enameling carriage-tops; and it has forits object to produce a simple and inexpensive dressing of this character, which may be conveniently applied, which Will dry rapidly, and also act as a preservative for the leather.
The composition consists of the following ingredients combined in substantially the following proportions: asphaltum, two quarts;
turpentine, one and one-half pints; neatsfoot oil, four ounces; Japan drier, four ounces; oil of cedar, four ounces; drip black, two spoonsful.
In compounding the dressing the Various ingredients are thoroughly mixed together, when it is ready for use.
In using my composition the leather or other carriage-top is first Well cleaned, and the dressing then quickly applied with a soft brush and allowed to dry.
I claim as my invent-ion The herein-described carriage-top dressing, consisting of asphaltum, turpentine, neatsfoot oil, Japan drier, oil of cedar, and drip black, combined in substantially the proportions set forth.
