A. E. BRION. TAP WRENCH.
No. 464,659. Patented Dec. 8, 1891.
ATTOHN EY UNITED STATES PATENT vOFFICE.
ADOLPH E. BRION, OF BROOKLYN, NElV YORK.
T'A'P-WRENCH.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 464,659, dated December 8, 1891. Application filed February 7, 1891. Serial No. 380,691. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, ADOLPH E. BRIoN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Taprenches, of which the following is a specification. v
My invention relates, especially, to devices employed for holding taps while cutting female screws, and has for its object the provision of a neat, simple, cheap, and compact wrench which is adapted and arranged to hold a number of different sizes of taps.
To attain the desired end my invention consists, essentially, in certain novel and useful combinations or arrangements of parts and peculiarities of construction and operation, all of which will be hereinafter first fully explained, and then pointed out in the claims.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a side elevation of my improved tap-wrench. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal axial sectional view at line a; a: of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a cross-sectional view at line y 3 of Fig. 1.
Like letters of reference wherever they-0c cur indicate corresponding figures.
A A are the manipulating-handles of the wrench. I have shown said handles as made ofa straight rod of metal having its center portion out or scored around the periphery at 13, particularly illustrated in Fig. 3.
U is a hub, perforated longitudinally for the reception of the handle-rod and having radial square perforations D, of different sizes, to accommodate the shanks of different sizes of taps. The hub O is screw-threaded at E parts in all the E, and internally-screw-threaded rings F F are arranged to engage therewith.
In assembling the parts the hub is driven onto the handle-rod, the teeth B thereon securing the hub firmly and rigidly in the desired position, and in using the wrench the tap-shank is placed in its appropriate socket and by turning the rings F against the shank the tap is firmly held in place. It will thus be seen that my improved tap-wrench is admirably adapted to the uses and purposes for which it is intended. It is cheap, simple, neat, durable, and effective, while at the same time it is'adapted to a wide variation of sizes of taps.
Having now fully described my invention, What I claim as new therein, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. As a new article of manufacture, a tap wrench in which is comprised a hub provided with square radial perforations, around longitudinal perforation, and a handlepiece scored around its periphery at the center and driven into the longitudinal perforation in the hub, substantially as shown and described.
2. In a tap-wrench, the combination, with a hub provided with radial square perforations and with manipuletting-handles, the periphery of the hub being screw-threaded, of screwthreaded rings engaging therewith,- adapted and arranged to bear against the shanks of the taps and hold them'in place, substantially as shown and described.
-ADOLPH E. BRION.
