A. WILLOUGHBY. GATAMENIAL SACK AND SUPPORTER- No. 463,819. Patented Nov. 24, 1891.
IWITNESSES- IINVEIYTOIL UNITE STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ANNIE IVILLOIIGHBY, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
CATAMENIAL SACK AND SU'PPORTER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 463,819, dated November 24, 1891.-
Serial No. 399,689. (No model.)
of a garment-supporter and a pouch so con-' structed that the garment-supporter may be used either asa support for the ordinary under-garments or as a support for apouch, or as a support for both at the same time, and which shall be also so constructed that the pouch may be readily attached and detached With-' out removing the supporter.
Reference being had to the accompanying drawing, my invention is described as follows: 1 make the supporter of two braces or straps A A, of cloth, leather, or other suitable material, each strap passing over one of the shoulders of the body. I prefer to connect these two straps by a cross-brace O. The whole or a portion of each strap may be made of elastic webbing, so as to give some play or elasticity to the strap. Near the ends of the straps or braces are buttons B B B 13 or any other ordinary fastening device,by means of which one or more under-garments Whichit is desired to support may be attached. Below these buttons or fastening devices are other buttons 0 C 0 C or other ordinaryfastening devices. To these buttons or fastening devices C and O in front of the body andO and C at the back of the body are buttoned or detachably fastened two supporting devices for the pouch, one at the front and one at the back of the body. Each of these supporting devices for the pouch has at the end opposite to that at which it is attached to the straps a loop G, one end of which is detachably fastened by means of a button or other ordinary fastening device. This supporting device for the pouch may be made of any desired form; but I prefer to make it as follows: A cross-piece D, of cloth or similar fabric, is
arranged to fasten to the braces A A, if in front, or A A if at the back. This crosspiece is connected by two elastic links of rubber WebbingE E with another piece of cloth or similar fabric F, which has at the lower end a loop G, one end of which is detachably fastened by means of a button H, or other ordinary fastening device. I
The pouch L, large enough to hold a sponge, is composed of soft rubber and has two soft rubber loops K K. I prefer to make the loops of slightly-thicker rubber than the pouch and to make the loop at the front of the body shorter than the loop at the back of the body. In adjusting the pouch each of the loops G, one in front and one at the back of the body, is passed through one of the softrubber loops of the pouch and fastened by the button or other ordinary fastening device H.
It will be seen that by detaching the cross pieces D the supporter can be used as an ordinary garment-supporter, and that with the cross-pieces D attached the supporter can be used either solely as a support for the pouch or as a support both for pouch and undergarments. It Will be seen, also, that by unfastening the loop G at the button or fastening H in front and in back the pouch can be removed and replaced without removing the supporter from the body. The loop G may also,if desired, be used as a guard to the sponge by passing it through a loop attached to the sponge.
I claim as my invention In combination, the braces A A, the buttons B B B E the buttons C C C 0 the cross-piece D, the links E E, the supporting devices F, the loops G, the buttons H, the pouch L, and the loops K K, operating together as a garment-supporter and pouch, substantially as and for the purposes described.
ANNIE VVILLOUGl-IBY.
