J. PRESTON.
DRAWER PULL.
No. 461,711. I Patented O0t.20, 1891.
ATTORNEYS.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFF-ICE.
JAMES PRESTON, OF NETV YORK, N. Y.
' DRAWER-PULL.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 461,711, dated October 20, 1891.
Application filed May 9, 1889. Renewed July 9, 1891- Serial No. 398,962. (No model.)
To all whom, it may concern/.-
Be itknown that I, JAMES PRESTON, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Post for Furniture-Handles, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to cabinet-hardware, the object of the invention being to provide a simple, cheap, and durable post for handles, and one which may be rapidly and easily manufactured; and to the end named the invention consists in a post for furniture-handles consisting in a wire threaded at its inner end and bent at its outer end to form an eye and a-stop, and a sleeve cast upon the post adjacent to its eye, as will be hereinafter fully described and claimed.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming apart of this specification, in which similar figures and letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.
Figure 1 is a face View of a handle representing the same as it appears when supported by my improved post. Fig. 2 isasectional view on line c 03 of Fig. 1. Fig. 8 is a crosssectional view on line y y of Fig. 2. Fig. 4 is a view of a modified form of post, and Fig. 5 is a view of a still further modification.
The post forming the subject-matter of this application consists of a single length of wire 10, bent to form an eye 11, and a lateral projection 12, this lateral projection simply extending outward, as shown in Fig. 4, or being bent so as to extend upward, or the projection being longer and bent so as to extend upward, as shown at a in Figs. 1, 2, and 3, or downward, as shown at bin Fig. 5. The inner edge of the wire is threaded to engage a retaining-nut 13. The sleeve 14 upon the post is cast thereon. The eyes 11 are of proper size to receive the prongs 16 of ahandle 20, and the projections 12 serve to prevent said handle from striking against and marring the furniture to which the handle is secured, said projections acting as stops at this time.
Posts constructed as above described may be quickly and easily manufactured, and being made of Wrought metal will be much stronger and more durable than the ordinary form of cast posts.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent As an improved article of manufacture, a post for furniture-handles, consisting in a Wire 10, threaded at its inner end and bent at its outer end to form an eye 11, and a stop 12, and a sleeve 14, cast upon the post adjacent to its eye, substantially as set forth.
, JAMES PRESTON.
