Description
NrTEn STATES PATENT OFFICE.
.WILLIS D. SHERMAN OF OMAHA, NEBRASKA, ASSIGNOH TO THE UNION HYDRAULIC DRAIN TILE COMPANY, OF SAME PLACE.
TRUCK.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 461,689, dated October 20, 1S91.
Application filedbecember 11, 1890. Serial No. 374,361. (No model.) I
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WVILLIS D. SHERMAN, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Omaha, in the countyof Douglas and State of Nebraska, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Trucks or Carriages for Handling Sewer-Pipes or Drain-Tile Molds; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification. 1
My invention relates to trucks or carriages for handling sewer-pipe and drain-tile molds.
In the manufacture of concrete or cement pipe by :machinerysuch as disclosed in the application filed by me of even date herewith, Serial No. 374,356, for improvements in machines for making sewer-pipe and draintile, the faucet end of the pipe, which is provided with a groove to receive the end of an adjoining pipe, is formed first, the filling material being fed into the mold and compacted by means of tamping-bars. The mold used in connection with such machines consists of a contractible core, a shell, a bottom plate, and cover, as described and shown in an application for Letters Patent filed by me of even 7 date herewith, Serial No. 374,358. After completion of the sewer-pipe or drain-tile it is necessary to remove the mold from the machine and reverse the same in order to strip the shell from the pipe.
The object of the present invention is to provide a truck or carriage by means 'of which the mold may be readily removed from the machine, and which will so suspend or hold the said mold that its position may be readily reversed.
The invention consists in the novel construction and combination of parts, hereinafter fully described, and definitely pointed out in the claim.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 represents a side elevation of a truck or carriage constructed in accordance with my in-' vention. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the same. Fig. 3 represents detail views.
In the said drawings, the reference-numeral 1 designates the wheels of the truck or carriage, which may be of any suitable construction. spindles 2, secured to downwardly-depending lugs formed with or secured to the horizontal bars 3. These bars may be of wood or metal, as may be found most convenient or desirable, and are provided at their front ends with inwardly-projecting arms 4, provided with upwardly-projecting pins 5, screwthreaded at their upper ends. The numeral 6 designates a transverse bar or plate provided with slots 7 at each end and having a forwardly-projecting arm 8. The pins 5 pass through the slots in plate 6, which is adjust ably attached to the bars 3by means of the nuts 9. Connected with the arm 8 is a forwardly-projecting lever 10, having handle 12. The rear ends of bars 3 are provided with hooks 13.
The operation is as follows: NVhen the mold is to be removed from the machine, the truck is backed up to thesame and the rear ends of the arms 3 depressed by elevating lever 10, so that the hooks 13 will engage with the trunnions of the mold. The lever is then depressed, causing the mold to be elevated, and it can then be readily wheeled to any point or place desired and the mold can be reversed, the trunnions thereof serving as pivots. In my said application, Serial No. 374,356, I locate the trunnions intermediate of the bottom and the center of gravity, so that there will be no difliculty in reversing the position of the same. After having removed and reversed the mold it is lowered to the ground, the bottom plate removed, and the shell unlocked and stripped from the tile. The object in making the arms 3 adjustable laterally is to allow the trucks to be employed in connection with molds of varying diameters.
Having thus described my invention, What I claim is- In a truck or carriage for handling sewerpipe or drain-tile molds, the combination, with the wheels, the horizontal arms provided with hooks at their rear ends and with inwardly-projecting arms at their front ends These wheels are mounted upon having upwardly-projecting screw-threaded my own I have hereunto affixed my signature pins .of the transverse plate or bar having slots at each end the binding-nuts, the arm formed with or secured to said transverse plate, and WILLIS SHERMAN Witnesses:
Jos. L. COOMBS,
BENNETT S. J ONES.

5 the lever secured to said arm, substantially as described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as
