W. E. SEPTON. HILLSIDE PLOW.
No. 461,624. Patented Oct. 20,1891.
W17 5555. I AWE/v7" 1e MM 6% 12y M flax/Q 75411... I ATTORNEY.
NITED. STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM E. SEFTON, OF OANION, OHIO.
HILLSIDE-PLOW.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 461,624, dated October 20, 1891.
Application filed December 31, 1890. Serial No. 376,358. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, WILLIAM E. SEFTON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Canton, in the county of Stark and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hillside-Flows; and I do hereby declare that the following is afull, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, in which Figure 1 is a side elevation showing a portion of one of the handles partly broken away. Fig. 2 is a view showing the rear end of the beam and the trip-lever attached thereto. Fig. 3 is a view of the rear end of the plow, showing the mold-board and its different parts partially turned. Fig. 4: is a detached View of the detent. Fig. 5 is a detached view of the connecting-bar. Fig 6 is a detached view of the standard or post.
The present invention has relation to hillside-plows; and it consists in the different parts and combinations of parts hereinafter described, and particularly pointed out in the claim.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all of the figures of the drawings.
In the accompanying drawings, A represent-s the beam, which is constructed in the ordinary manner and securely attached to the post or standard B in any convenient and well-known manner.
' To the bottom or lower end of the post or standard B is pivotally attached the moldboard O by means of the pin a, the connectingthe hooked extremities c, which embrace the pins or posts I), substantially as illustrated in Fig. 1.
For the purpose of disengaging one of the hooked extremities c from one of the pins or posts b the trip-lever F is provided, which trip-lever is pivotally attached to the rear end of the beam A and to the rung or rungs which connect the handles cl. The trip-lever F is provided with the pendent arm G,Wl1l0h arm may be formed integral with said trip-lever, as illustrated in the drawings, or it may be made separate and attached in any conventies c automatically engage one of the pins or posts 1), thereby securely locking the plow proper.
It will be understood that by providing the trip-lever F and its pendent arm Gr the operator can release the mold-board O without the necessity of reaching forward to shift the detent E.
For the purpose of preventing the detent E from falling too far the extensions 6 are provided, which extensions engage the shoulder f.
Having fully described my invention, What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The combination of the beam A, the post or standard B, the mold-board C, pivotally connected to the post B, the pivoted connect-- ing-bar D, provided with the pins 1), the detent E, provided with the hooks c and the shoulders f, the extension 6, and the trip-lever- F, provided with the arm G, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses. 1
\VILLIAM E. SE FTON.
