SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 461,543, dated October 20, 1891.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that 1, CHARLES J. CARLSON, a citizen of the United States, residing at 00kato, in the county of WVright and State of Minnesota, have invented a new and useful Curry-Comb and Cleaner, of which the following is a specification.

The invention relates to improvements in curry-combs and cleaners.

The object of the present invention is to provide a simple and inexpensive curry-comb and means for readily and effectively cleaning the same.

The invention consists in the construction and novel combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and pointed out in the claims hereto appended.

In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of a curry-comb embodying the invention. Fig. 2 is a reverse plan View, the cleaner being swung back. Fig. 3 is a longitudinal sectional View. Fig. 4 is a transverse sectional view.

Referring to the accompanying drawings, 1 designates a curry-comb frame approximately rectangular and constructed of suitable metal and provided with an integral shank 2, to which is secured a handle 3. The rectangular frame 1, to which teeth-plates 4 are secured, consists of side bars 5, end bars 6, and an intermediate cross-bar 7, which is provided on its lower face with integral rivets 8, passing through the plates 4 and securing the same at points intermediate their ends. The plates are of the usual construction and are provided at their ends with flanges 9, which are arranged in slots 10 of the end bars 6 and are bent inward over the same, thereby securing the ends of the plates to the frame, and the end bars are recessed on the inner side of the frame and rounded to receive the flanges 9. One end of the frame is provided with a series of hooks or open eyes 11, formed integral with the adjacent end bar and adapted to hinge to the curry-comb a cleaner 12, composed of a series of longitudinal loops, each having one end engaging one of the open eyes or hooks sists of a wire frame 13, which is bent to form end loops 14, and intermediate separate wire loops 15 are arranged between the end loops l4 and secured to the frame and are provided at their ends with eyes 16, which engage the transverse end wire 17 of the frame 13, and the-sides of the loops are held in their proper positions by spacing-sleeves 6 3 18, arranged upon the transverse wire 17. The transverse wire is bent intermediate its ends to form a loop or lip 19, which engages recesses 20 of one of the end bars 6 and secures the cleaner to the comb when the latter is in use.

It will be seen that the curry-comb and cleaner are simple and inexpensive and effective, and that the cleaner is not rendered inoperative by the slight bending of the flanges of the teeth-plates.

From the foregoing description and the accompanying drawings the construction, operation, and advantages of the invention will readily be understood.

What I claim is 1. In a curry-comb, the combination of the rectangular frame comprising the side bars, the end bars provided with slots and with recesses on the inner side of the frame, the cross-bar having integral rivets on its lower face, and the teeth-plates 4, secured to the frame intermediate of their ends by the rivets of the cross-bar and provided at their ends with flanges engaging the slots of the end 0 bars and arranged flush within the recesses, substantially as described.
