To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that we, VARNER L. KELLAR and EDWARD C. KELLAR, citizens of the United States, residing at Azusa, in the county of Los Angeles, State of California, have invented a new and useful Adjustable Extension Revolver-Stock, of which the following is a specification.

Our invention relates to that class of stocks which are designed to be attached to the handle of revolvers or pistols, whereby the weapon may be braced against the shoulder in order to secure greater accuracy of aim.

The object of our invention is to produce a cheap, simple, and neat stock that may be quickly attached and detached from any revolver or pistol, and which may be adjusted to bring the weapon into proper position for sighting irrespective of the angle of the handle of the weapon in relation to the barrel thereof.

The accompanying drawings illustrate our invention, in which- Figure 1 is a plain side view of our invention with the upper portion of the skeleton frame. Fig. 2 is a plain bottom view of our invention. Fig. 3 is a plain front view of our invention with the flexible attaching-band broken off to expose the end of the head piece. Fig. 4 is a plain side view of the lower end of the skeleton-frame.

Our invention comprises the combination of a head-piece adapted to receive the handle of a weapon, a flexibleloop attached to such head-piece and adapted to encircle such handle when in place, suitable means for reducing the circumference of such loop to draw the handle of the weapon against the headpiece, operative means for retaining such loop in its reduced condition, a stock'attached to such head-piece, and operative means for changing the angle of the plane of the face of the head-piece in relation to the longitudi nal axis of the stock.

The head-piece A is preferably formed of one piece of cast metal, and perpendicularly through such head piece is journaled the tightening-shaft B, to which is rigidly attached the ratchetsvheel-C, which is engaged by the pawl D, whichpawl is pivoted to the head-piece A by the pivot to, and is held in operative engagement with such ratchetwheel by a spring E. On the top and also on the bottom of the front of the end plate I) of head-piece A are provided two semicircular forwardly-projecting handle-emln'acing arms F G, adapted to fit upon the rear portion of the handle of the weapon to which it is de-.

signed to attach the stock, and in the end plate b, transverse to and between such arms, are provided two slots H I, through which pass the opposite sides of the flexible loop J, which loop is attached to the tightening-shaft B by passing through a slot K in such shaft, and which loop has its ends secured to each other, so as to form a continuous band. On the rear portion of the head-piece is provided the attachment-arm L, to which is secured the skeleton frame M, which forms the extension of the stock. The opposing faces of the attachment-arm and the skeleton M are roughened and are held firmly togther by a thumbscrew N.

The operation is as follows: The pawl D is released from its ei'igagement'with the ratchet-wheel O, and the loop J is drawn outward a sufficient distance to permit the loop to slip loosely over the handle of the weapon to which itis desired to attach the stock. The handle of the weapon is placed in the handle securing arms II I. The flexible loop Jis placed around the handle of the weapon, between the arms F G. 'lhekey O is then placed upon the stem P of the shaft B, and the shaft is rotated toward the right, the flexible band winding on the shaft B. The loop is gradually and forcibly drawn toward such shaft until it is stopped from further movement by the handle of the weapon. It is then drawn tight and the key 0 is removed, while the pawl and ratchet-wheel prevent rotation of the shaft B and consequent loosening of the band J. The thumb-screw N is loosened and the skeleton frame M is adjusted to the proper angle to bring the weapon into proper position for sighting, when the stock is placed against the shoulder and the weapon held in position for shooting. The thumb-screw is then tightened, and the opposing faces being roughened, the frame M and attachment arm L are h eld firmly in the same relative position.

For greater convenience in carrying the weapon we provide a ring Q in the end of the skeleton frame, through which is passed a strap R, adapted to encircle the arm at the shoulder; or the strap may be passed under the arm, across the chest, and over the other shoulder, as may be most convenient.

Various modifications of ourinvention will suggest themselves to mechanics, and we have only described the form we deem preferable; but we do not limit ourselves to the specific construction shown. 7

Now, having described our invention, what we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

1. In an extension-stock, the combination of the stock adapted at one end to receive the handle of a weapon, a flexible loop secured to such stock and adapted to encircle such handle when in position, operative means for reducing the circumference of such loop, and
