No. 460,552. Patented Oct. 6, 1891.

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ALICE N. BURBANK, OF NAPOLI, NEI/V YORK.
PUZZLE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 460,552, dated October 6, 1891. Application filed April 7, 1891. Serial No. 387,931. (No model.)
T0 all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, ALICE N. BUEBANK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Napoli, in the county of Oattaraugus and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Game Apparatus, of which the following is a specification.
This invention is an improvement in game apparatus and especially in such as are commonly denominated puzzles The object of this invention is to provide a game or puzzle which may be a test of ones steadiness of nerve and afford amusement in the home circle at all times.
The invention has for further objects the production of a puzzle which will be simple, inexpensive, and ornamental, and which will serve as a source of instructive amusement for people young and old.
With these objects in view the invention resides in the various novel details of construction and in the combination of parts hereinafter fully described, and particularly pointed out in the claim.
In the drawings, in which I have illustrated my invention, and in which like letters of reference indicate corresponding parts, Figure l is a plan view of my puzzle-board. Fig. 2 is a diametrical section of the same.
In the drawings, the letter A designates the base-board, which is circular and has surrounding it a circular wall a. Vithin this wall the board is divided by means of a circle concentric with the board into an outer raceway B and inner radial tracks O. Above the center of the board is erected a dome D, composed of arches d, which intersect at their centers. These arches have upon them suitable words. Beneath the arches arranged around the center of the board are circular depressions c, which are provided fo': a purpose to be described. The radial tracks C, which connect the outer raceway B with the central portion of the board E, are designated by colors or other convenient means, and these radial tracks are marked North, Northeast, East, Southeast, South, Southwest, lVest, Northwest At the ends of these radial tracks O, within the circular raceway B, are stalls f, wherein marbles corresponding in color to the colors of the radial tracks are to be placed at the commencement of the game. F designates guides, which occupy the spaces between the radial tracks C and serve as walls between which the marbles may move from the outer raceway B to the inner portion of the circle E, or vice versa.
' As before stated, the radial tracks C are designated by the points of the compass and are also distinguished from each other by colors or other similar means. These tracks are designed for marbles corresponding in color to them.
The game is designed to be played by placing marbles of the appropriate colors in the stalls marked f, and by simply tilting the board A causing the said marbles to roll through their appropriate radial tracks and rest in the depressions e, whichare arranged near the center E of the board A opposite the inner ends of the tracks C.
It will be seen that my game or puzzle will require patience and steadiness of nerve and will afford much amusement to player and spectator. A
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In a game appara-tus or puzzle, the combination, with an outer raceway B, of the radial tracks C, leading from said raceway to the central portion of the board E, the outer raceway being provided with the stalls f, and the central portion having the depressions e, arranged opposite the inner ends of the radial tracks, all substantially Vas and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto affixed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
ALICE N. BURBANK.
