COOKING-RANGE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 460,188, datedSeptember 29, 1891. Application filed November 24, 1890. $erial No. 372,563. lllo model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it. known that I, JOHN TETTELBACH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Cleveland, in the county of Ouyahoga and State of Ohio, have invent-ed certain new and useful Improvements in Cooking-Ranges, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in st eel-plate cooking-ranges, the nature of which willfully appear in the subjoined description, and illustrated i n the accompanying drawings, in Which Figure 1 is a front elevation of a range containing my improvements. Fig. 2 is a vertical section on line 2 2 of said front elevation.
A represents the front plate of the range; B, the oven-door; O, the f uel-f-eed door; D, the flue-cleaning door, and E the ash-drawer. In general eifect these have the same appearance as those now in common use, my improvements consisting in the peculiar construction and adaptation of the oven door latch.
The latch for the oven-door consists of a vertically-sliding bar a, playing through a slot in the upper flange of the door B, its lower end having a Weight and covered by a shield-plate b. The shield-plate also has perforated ears 6 e, in Which a handledever F is pivoted, its inner end enteringa mortise in the said latchbar. The handle to said lever may be of any ornamental pattern desired. By depressing the handle the latch-bar is lifted for unlatching the door, the Weight 011 the lower end of said bar counterbalancing the lever. The one motion of depressing the handle serves to unlatch the door and to move the door open. Having described my invention, I claim A latching device for range-doors, consisting of a shield-plate Z), having ears 6 e, a handle F, pivoted in said ears, and aweighted latchbar a, engaging With the inner end of said handle and With the catch on the door-frame, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
