Description

UNITED STATES AUGUSTE ELIAER-S, OF BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS.
IMPROVED ELASTIC STUD FOR' DOORS.
Specication forming part of Letters Patent No. 45,984, dated January 24, 1865.
[b LU wtmn it may concern:
Be it known that I, AUGUSTE ELIAERs, of Boston, in the county of Suffolk and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in the Construction of Elastic Studs or Buttons for Doors, Snc.; and I do hereby declare that the following description, taken in connection with the accompanyin g drawings, hereinafter referred to7 forms a full and exact specification ot' the same, wherein I'have set i'orth the nature and principles or" my said improvements by which my invention may be distinguished from all others of a similar class, together with such parts as I claim and desire to have secured to me by Letters Patent.
The present invention is applicable more particularly to doors, French windows, die., where two swinging edges or surfaces are brought in contact with each other, its object being to prevent noise or jar and to hold the parts in p1 oper relative positions.
My improvements by which these objects are accomplished consist substantially in the use of two or more elastic studs or buttons working or rubbing against each other, respectively, in the ends or edges ot' the swinging, sliding, or otherwise movable part and the stationary rabbet orjamb.
My improvements are represented in the accompanying plate of drawings, of which vFigure l is a perspective view of a door and vits frame, and Figs. 2 and 3 horizontal sections of the same.
a, ct in the drawings represent the door, and b b its frame or jamb. In the edge of the door I insert one or more studs or buttons, c c, made of india-rubber or other suitable elas tic material, and in the jamb b b two or more similar studs, d d', placed one behind the other, as shown. When the door is being closed, the elastic studs or buttons in the edge of the door strike first against the elastic studs d and rub by the same, thus preventing any slamming or jar, and then come to a bearing against the rear stud, d', as shown in Figs. 2 and 8, thus holding the door in its proper position, so that no jar or noise can possibly occur by the shutting of the door.
As the rubbing ot' the studs against each other might in time cause their ends to become worn, I have provided for this contingencyY by making the stu'ds hollow, as shown in Fig. 2, thereby giving more yielding elasticity to the same when they rub together, as will be readily understood.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to have secured to me by Letters Patent, is-
l. My improvement in the construction of doors, French windows, &c., which consists in the use of two or more elastic studs or buttons, working or rubbing against each other, respectively, in the ends or edges of the swinging, sliding, or otherwise movable part, and the station ary rabbetorjamb, as described. 2. The combination ot' the elastic studs or buttons, operating togetherV as described, and one or more elastic studs or buttons placed in the rear of the first set of studs or buttons, the whole serving to prevent noise and to hold in position the movable part, as set forth.
ATE. ELIAERS.
