A represents acommon car-Wheel; B, theV beam ofthe brake, towhich thefriction-block is'nttached. I set the said block in a ca'se'ior box, D, fixed to thebeam B. The lower end of the said box I niakeinelined upward,

My'brake may be operated to bear against i the wheel in any of the commonways.i That is no part of my invention.

The principal advantages of my invention over Ordinary frictioinbloclrs are, a greatly-increased friction from the saine yamount of power applied, and the adjustment of the block as it' wears away.
