UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HENRY R. VAN EPS, OF PEORIA, ILLINOIS.
WIRE WINDOW-RACK FOR FLOWER-POTS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 459,604, dated September 15, 1891.
Application filed April 2, 1891. Serial No. 3871459. (N model.)
' county of Peoria, and State of Illinois, have in- I wire window-rack.
vented certain new and useful Improvements in Vire \Vindow-Racks forFlower-Pots; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it apprtains to make and use the' same.
My invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in wire window-racks for flower-pots, by means of which a rack is provided simple in construction, durable, and cheap in first cost.
Moreoparticularly my invention relates to a window-rack for flower-pots adapted to be adjusted upon the window-sill. within sockets, and within which are fitted hooks or feet at the lower and forward portion of the rack, and provided with rods attached to the upper portion extending forward and provided with hooks to bear in sockets or staples provided upon the casing of the window, and with the rack provided with a series of shelves upon which are designed to be placed the flowerots. D That my invention may be more fully understood, reference may be had to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is an end view of my improved Fig. 2 is a plan view of the same.
The object of my improvement is to provide an ornamental wire rack of asimple and light construction, that may be readily attached or detached from the window-frame, for holding flower-pots so that they may be exposed to the sun and airinstead of placing them directly upon the window -sill, thus avoiding damaging the sill by contact of rough surface of the flower pots and from watering the plants or flowers.
The rack consists of the rod A, which forms the outer and main frame-work, and is bent at the sides of the frame-work at right angles to form a series of shelves and provided with hooks or feet at its respective ends and lower forward portion, as b, to rest upon the window-sill or in sockets provided; The rod E is also provided bent to conform with the angles of the rod A, and is a part of the main frame-work and is secured to the rod A at its upper forward port-ion by being bent around the same. 0 O O O G are cross-running rods secured to the rod A at the points of the several angles by being bent around the same, there being also provided the wires a a a a, secured to the frame-rod A the same as the rod 0, to form the bottom of the shelves. The rod 0 and the wires on are secured to the rod E by means of the wire 10, being twisted around the said wires and rods at the intersecting points, as shown. The rod B is secured at the sides to the upper cross-rod O, and extends upward and forward across the front of the rack, and is held in position by means of the wire-work c, or any suitable wire-work. The rods D D are provided to form the upper attachment means of the rack, and are secured to the frame-work at one 'end and with their free ends provided with the hooks b for attachment to the windowcasing. The rod Ais bent in theform herein shown for the shelves, so as to bring them into line with the sides of the flower-pots.
For wide and double windows it will be necessary to use more than onerod E to give it the required strength and support and in such use the rod E should be provided with a foot or hook, the same as rod A, designed to rest upon the sill or socket therein provided.
To attach the rack to a window-frame, two eyes are screwed into each side thereof, and the hooks b b on the rods D D are slipped into the two upper eyes and the hooks b 1) into the two lower eyes, the rack being thus securely held to the window-frame.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
In a wire window-rack for flower-pots, the frame-rod A, bent at the sides of the rack to form a series of shelves and its respective ends terminating in the hooks b, the crossrods 0 O C O O secured'to the frame-rod A at the points of angle at the sides of the framework, the wires or a a a forming the bottom of the shelves and secured to the frame-rod A at thesides of the frame-work, the intermediate frame-rod E bent to conform with the the books I) at their respective outer or free angles of the rod A at the respective sides of ends, all combined for the purpose described 10 the rack and secured to the cross-rods C and and shown.
the Wires a by means of the Wire w, being 5 twisted upon the said rods and Wires at the Y VAN intersecting points, the railing formed by the Witnesses: rod B, and the Wire-work c, the rods D D se- CHARLES A. KIMMEL,
cured to the frame-work and provided with E. C. XVOODOOCK.
