Description
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
J. IV. BLISS, OF HARTFORD, CONNECTICUT.
IMPROVED EGG-BEATER OR AGITATOR.
Specification forming part of' Letters Patent No. 45,309. dated December B, 1864; antedated November 20, 1864.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, J. lV. BLISS, ot' the city and county of Hartford and State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful I|nprovements in Family or Household Utensils, or, in other words, an agitator for egg-beaters, churns, and the like, made of glass; and I do hereby declare that the same is described and represented in the followin g specications and drawings, so as to enable a person skilled in the art to make and use said invention.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a plan of elevation. Fig. 2 is a sectional plan view.`
a are protuberances or projections formed in or upon the inner surface of the vessel. b is a tumbler or cup upon the nozzle ot the vessel.
The body of this vessel or utensil is made very milch in the same form and Way of making` glass jars and bottles, and without any particular plan or design, either of the vessel or utensil, or the neck or nozzle thereof, only that the nozzle should be made in such sha-pe and in such a Way, and as large as the body of the Vessel will admit of, for the purpose of freely receiving and discharging its contents. Upon the inner sides or surfaces of this instrument are formed protuberances or projections a., which may be made more or less in number, and of such size, shape, length, and position in their arrangement, upon the inside of the jars or vessel, as shall be best calculated to accomplish the desired object; and in order to render it perfectly tight, I propose sometimes, or when it may seem necessary or important, to make the neck or nozzle thereof like the neck or nozzle of E. Harriss fruit-jar, patented 186l; but usually I propose to use the common cork or stopper, and sometimes a cup or tumbler, as shown at b, which for some purposes will add much to its utility.
The modes ot' agitating, tilting, or oscillating this utensil are many and various in their mechanical devices. When made or used quite small, it may be quite successfully tilted, vibrated, or shaken by the hands; but when made ot' any considerable size, some simple mechanism composed of arms, springs, C\:c.,
can be employed to important advantage.
I have thus endeavored to describe my improvement, so as to enable others skilled to make and use the same.
What I claim, therefore, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is- Y As a new improved article of manufacture, viz., a Vessel made of glass, theinside surface ot' which is provided with protuberances or projections for agitating substances, uids, 85o., substantially as described.
J. W. BLISS.
