To all whom t may concern.-
Be it known th at I, FnEDnRloK C. WALKER, of the city and State ot" New York, have invented, made, and applied to use a certain new and useful Improvement in Washing- Machines; and I do hereby declare the following to be afull, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making part ot' this specification, wherein- Figure l is a vertical section of said machine, and Fig. 2 is a plan of the same.

Washing-machines have heretofore been constructed in which a semi-cylindrical rubber has been used in a concave tub and the rubber-surfaces have been corrugated.
The nature of my said invention consists in a concavity in the under side ot' the semi-cylindrical rubber, that acts to produce aconstant change in the position of the clothes by causingthem to be alternately7 relieved of pressure, and then again compressed by the rubber, and causing one portion of the clothes to slide upon or move over the other portion as the same are gathered by the action of the said concavity as the rubber is moved, in combination with a series of corrugated or ribbed circular slats, the corrugations of which are alternating with those ot theA adjoining slats, so that the clothes are thoroughly rubbed and worked about sufficiently to operate on all parts with the least amount of wear and with but little labor.

What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
Constructing a washing-machine with a series ot' corrugated slats alternating with each other, in combination with a semi-cylindrical rubber formed with a cavity, j', for the purposes and as speciiied.
