ATTACHMENT SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Application filed August 21, 1890- To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, CHESTER P. JOHNSON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Am sterdam,in the county of Montgomery and State of New York, have invented a new and following is a specification.

This invention relates to an improved attachment for stoves, having for its object to provide means by which a stove may easily and conveniently be moved from one place to another.

The invention consists in the combination, with a stove, of casters attached to the legs of the same in such a manner that they may be lowered in their bearings, thus raising or lifting the stove and enabling it to be conveniently roiled or moved about upon the casters.

The detailed construction of the device which constitutes my invention will be hereinafter described, and particularly pointed out in the claims.

In the drawings hereto annexed, Figure 1 is a side view of a stove equipped with my invention, parts having been broken away for the purpose of illustrating the construction more clearly. Fig.2 is a bottom plan view of one of the legs of the stove equipped with my improved attachment. Fig. 3 is a detail perspective view of one of the casters, showing the same applied to a stove-leg in position for operation. Fig.4 is a sectional view taken vertically through one of the legs having the caster applied thereto. Fig. 5 is a horizontal sectional view taken on the line 5 5 of Fig. l.

1 designates a stove, which may be of any construction, and which is provided with legs 2, which are likewise of ordinary well-known construction.

Upon the inner sides of thelegs are mounted blocks or castings 3, which may either be formed integrally with the legs, or they may be attached thereto by means of screws or bolts 4, as shown in the drawings hereto annexed. lower end of the shank 6 has a reduced spindle 14, upon which is swiveled a frame 15, carrying a caster-wheel 16 of ordinary construction.

In operation the parts are so arranged and located with relation to each other and to the stove-legs that when the shanks 6, carrying the caster-wheels, are raised to the highest pointin their bearings the caster-wheels shall just clear the floor. When it is desired to move the stove, the sleeves 24: are one by one rotated in their bearings by means of the wrench or handle engaging the curved arms 12, thus causing the oblique-faced disks 11 to engage the oblique under sides of the blocks 3 and thereby forcing the shanks 6, carrying the Wheels or casters, in a downward direction, or perhaps more properly jacking or lifting the stove-logs from contact with the door. The store may then, as is obvious, be easily rolled in any desired direction. When the stove has been placed in the desired position, the sleeves 24 are turned in a reverse direction, thus lowering the stove until the legs rest firmly upon the floor.

It is obvious that my herein-described invention is capable of being applied with equal advantage to heating and cooking stoves of all kindsthat require to be occasionally moved.

I also desire it to be understood that I do not limit myself to the precise details of construction which have herein been shown and described, inasmuch as numerous minor changes and modifications may be made without materially departing from the spirit and scope of myinvention by exercising ordinary mechanical skill and igenuity. Iparticularly reserve the right to form the supporting blocks or brackets 3 integrally with or separate from the stove-legs 2, as may be preferred. 7 Having thus described my invention, I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States 1. In a stove, the combination, with the legs, of the vertically-adjustable shanks having casters at'their lower ends, and springs to force the said shanks normally in an upward direction, substantially as set forth.

2. In a stove, the combination, with the legs having suitable bearings provided with inclined or oblique lower faces, of the sleeves mountedin said bearings and having disks provided with inclined or oblique meeting faces, and the shanks mounted on'said sleeves and disks and having casters at their lower ends, substantially as set forth.

The combination, with a stove-leg having a suitable bearing block or bracket with an inclined or oblique lower face, of a sleeve mounted in said bearing and having a disk provided with an inclined meeting face and an outwardly-extending curved arm or horn, a shank mounted in said sleeve, and a caster at the lower end of said shank, substantially as set forth.

4. The combination, with a stove'leg having a suitable bearing block or bracket, of a sleeve mounted in said block or bracket and having a disk provided with an inclined face bearing against the correspondingly-inclined lower side or face of the block or bracket and with an outwardly-extending curved arm or horn, ashank mounted in said sleeve, a spring arranged to force the said shank and sleeve normally in an upward direction, and a caster wheel at the lower end of said shank, substantially as set forth.

5. In a stove, the combination, with the legs, of the vertically-perforated bearing blocks or brackets upon the inner sides of said legs, the sleeves mounted in said bearings and having disks provided with outwardly-extending horns normally resting against the sides of the legs and with inclined meeting faces bearing against the correspondiugly-inclined lower faces of the bearing-blocks, the shanks mounted in said sleeves and having flanges supporting the disks at the lower ends of the latter, the casters swiveled at the lower ends of said shanks, and the coiled springs mounted upon the upper ends of the latter between the transverse pins or keys and the upper sides of the bearing-blocks, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
