UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
MARSHALL SATTLEY, OF SPRINGFIELD, ILLINOIS, ASSIGNOR TO HIMSELF AND AROHIBALD SATTLEY AND SAMUEL E. PRATHER, OF SAME PLACE.
HARROW.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 447,260, dated February 24, 1891. Application filed May 5, 1890. Serial No. 350,546. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, MARSHALL SATTLEY, of Springfield, in the county of Sangamon and State of Illinois, haveinvented certain new and useful Improvements in Harrows, of which the following is a specification.
The object of this invention is to provide simple and effective means for securing teeth in harrow-frames while permitting longitudi- 1o nal adjustment of the teeth; and the invention consists in the details of construction and combinations of parts hereinafter set forth and claimed.
In the drawings accompanying and forming a part of this specification, Figure 1 is a perspective representation of afragment of a frame-bar with a securing-clip attached. Fig. 2 is a plan of a piece of frame-bar, a round tooth, and a clip adapted to the tooth; and
Fig. 3 is a similar View showing a tooth square in cross-section and a corresponding clip.
The frame is composed of bars of angle-iron, each having an approximately vertical side 1 and an approximately horizontal plate 2. The
2 5 horizontal or base plate 2 has holes 8, correspending in size and shape to the harrowteeth. Clips 3 are provided with lugs 4 and 5, and they are adapted by form and size to embrace the teeth and clamp them against the 0 side plate 1.. The clips have each along side and a shorter side. The long side has a lug at, that fits against the side plate 1 and is secured thereto by a rivet 6. The shorter side has a lug 5, which does not quite touch the 5 side plate while the clip is embracing a tooth, but which is drawn toward the plate by bolt 7.
In Fig. 2 a round tooth is indicated by 9,. and in Fig. 3 a squaretooth is shown at 10.
In construction the side plates are provided with clips riveted to the plates coincident 4,0 with the holes in the base-plates. The teeth are placed in position in the clips and holes, and the bolts 7 are tightened until the attachments are sufficiently secure. The teeth are easily adjusted longitudinally by loosening the bolts, moving the teeth to the desired positions, and retightening the bolts.
I claim A 1. In combination with a barrow-bar, a toothclip having a long side and a shorter side, the long side being riveted to the bar and the short side provided with a binding-bolt extending through the bar, as set forth.
2. In harrows, in combination, a bar having a side plate and a base-plate, the latter having holes to receive the teeth, and clips having each a long side riveted to the side plate and a short side secured to the side plate by a binding-bolt, as set forth.
3. In combination with a harrow-bar, a clip having a long side and a short side, the long side being secured permanent and the short side secured adj ustably to the bar.
In testimony whereof I sign my name in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
MARSHALL SATTLEY.
