Description

(No Model.)
' 0. L. NOBLE.
I HEEL TRIMMING TOOL.
No. 445,229. Patented Jan. 2'7, 1891.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
OSCAR L. NOBLE, OF BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS.
HEEL-TRIMMING TOOL.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 445,229, dated January 27, 1891.
Application filed March 13, 1886.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, OSCAR L. NOBLE, of Boston, in the county of Suffolk and State of Massachusetts, have invented an Improved Tool for Trimming Heels, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a side elevation, and Fig. 2 a lengthwise section, of one of my tools.
My tool consists of a central stem or arbor A, adapted to be connected with or forming a part of the arbor of the machine on which my tool is to be used, two sleeves or bushings B and O, a cutter D,of any suitable construction,a guard E, and a tread-rest F, the cutter D being clamped or otherwise secured to the arbor at stem A, and one or both of the bushings being clamped by screw G or otherwise secured to the shaft A. The bushings also serve as journals for the tread-rest F and guard E, in order that these parts may cease to revolve when the heel or counter is pressed against them. The tread-rest F is that described in Patent No. 308,056, of 188%,and the main novelty of my tool is the combination of this tread-rest with its groove to receive the corner of the top lift with the cutter by Serial No. 195,164. (No model.)
means of a bushing, whereby the tread-rest may remain stationary when the friction of the corner of the top lift is sufficient to arrest its revolution. I have shown a sectional cutter; but other forms may of course be used.
Another feature of my invention is a cut ter for trimming heels provided with the guard E and rest F, both of which are loosely mounted upon the cutter and which remain stationary, or nearly so, while the tool is in use in trimming heels; but the loosely mounted tread-rest is the main feature of my invention.
What I claim is 1. The improved tool for trimming heels, consisting of the cutter D, bushings B and C, guard E, and tread-rest F, combined together substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
2. The improved tool for trimming heels, consisting of the cutter D,bushings B and C, guard E, and tread-rest F, the tread-rest being a grooved ring loosely mounted on its bushing, substantiallyas and for the purpose set forth.
OSCAR L. NOBLE.
