H. WALKER. HOLDER FOR RETAINING SLEEVES IN POSITION. No. 442,268. Patented Dec. 9, 1890.
FIG: 2.
'* H INVENTDR WITNESSES 2M0 MW Unites STATES PATENT OFFICE.
RICHARD \YALKER, OF OULTON, NEAR LEEDS, COUNTY OF YORK, INGLAND.
HOLDER FOR RETAINING SLEEVES IN POSITION.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 442,263, dated December9, 1890.
Application filed February 4, 1890. Serial No. 339,152. (No model.) Patented in England August 14, 1889, No. 12,805.
To all whom, it may concern.-
Be it known that I, RICHARD WALKER, of Oulton, near Leeds, in the county of York, England, a subject of the Queen of Great Britain, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in an Appliance or Holder for Retaining Sleeves in Position, (for which I have applied for Letters Patent in Great Britain, No. 12,805, bearing date August 14, 1889,) of which the following is a specification.
This invention is designed with the object of providing a simple and handy appliance for holding or retaining the sleeve of a garment in position on the arm of the wearer when the same is being inserted in the sleeve of an outer garment, such as a jacket or overcoat.
It consists, essentially, of a holder construct ed of a cord or band with a running noose or loop fixed by two tubes attached together, preferably flexible, through which the cords are threaded at one end, and fitted at the other with a handle or holder for the hand, through which the cords also pass, the loop being guided by two or more rings which slide on the cord, and provided with a loosening-cord by which the loop is released from the sleeve.
The invention will be fully described with reference to the accompanying drawings.
Figure 1 shows the appliance when drawn up, but not in use. Fig. 2 shows the applianee when in position on the arm of the user.
A cord or band A is threaded through a double tube B, through which it can freely pass, so that when drawn up tight a noose or loop 0 will be formed by the central part c of the band A. The band is also threaded twice through rings or eyes D and E, which are connected together at a short distance apart by the link F. The rings D and E serve as guides for the band A to form a double noose around the arm when in use. The two ends of the band A, after passing through the double tube B and rings I) and E,are connected to or pass througha holder or handle In the drawings the ends are shown passing through the holder or handle G and attached to a ring 11 at the other side; but the ring H may be dispensed with and the ends of the band A attached to the handle G.
' of the arm.
the ends of the band.
The double tube B is preferably made of flexible material-such as cloth or leather though it may be made of metal slightly curved or bent, to correspond with the shape The rings D and E are preferably made of metal or other rigid material, though, if desired, a flexible material may be employed instead.
A second band or cord I is attached to or looped over the central part c of the band A, which forms the noose 0, being at the same time connected to the link F. The other end of the band I is provided with a button iand passes through a loop or eye 9 on the handle G. The function of the band I is to release the noose 0 when tightened in position on the arm.
The loosening-band I may be of a different material or of a different color or shape to distinguish it from the band A.
The holder or handle G may be made of or covered with leather on the outside, and padded in the interior with cotton, wool, or the like, when the top part .I will form aconvenient pin-cushion.
\Vhen in use, the noose or loop G, formed by the band A passing through the double tube 13, is tightened on the arm by pulling The holder or handle G is then held in the hand while the arm is passed through the sleeve of the outer garment. The noose or loop C is then released from the arm and drawn down by pulling the releasing-band I.
\Vhat I claim, and desire to secure by Let ters Patent, is-
1. A holder for retaining sleeves having a band or cord A with a sliding loop or noose O, in combination with a double tube or guide B, through which the band or cord A is threaded and is free to slide, and by which the loop 0 is formed, substantially as described.
2. In a holder for retaining sleeves, the combination, with the band orcord A, tube or guide B,and loop or noose O formed thereon, of the guide rings or eyes D and E and connecting-link F and releasing cord or band I.
3. In a holder for retaining sleeves, the combination, with the cord or band A, guidetube 13, and holder G, of the guide rings or In testimony whereof I have sign ed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
RICHARD WALKER.
