UNITED STATES PATENT OEEICE.
4THOMAS' MORA, OF FRANKLIN, LOISIANA.
UMBRELLA-SUPPORT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 225,409, dated March 9, 1880.
Application filed August 20, 1879.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, THOMAS MORA, of Franklin, in the parish of St. Marys and State of Louisiana, have invented a new and Improved Device for Supporting Umbrellas, of
which the following is a specification.
Figure lis a side elevation of the device. Fig. 2 is an enlarged sectional elevation of the same on line x Fig. l.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts. y
The object of this invention is an improved device for fastening an umbrella to the body of a person who is exposed to the rays of the sun during his work.
The in-vention consists of a tubular socket provided with side springs and of a tube provided with a laterallyprojecting ring, both of which are buttoned or otherwise fastened to straps or bands that buckle about the body.
When in use the notched end of the umbrella-handle is passed down through the supporting-tube into the socket, and grasped and held there by the side springs.
When the umbrella is not in use it may be withdrawn from the socket, folded, and placed within the ring, for convenience of transportation.
In the drawings, A represents the umbrella with handle pointed and notched at a. B is the tubular socket, provided with outside springs, C, whose bent points enter holes b in the sides of the socket and engage with the umbrella-handle. D is the supporting-tube,
provided with a ring, E, for holding the folded umbrella. c c are buttons or studs xed on the tube and socket for securing them upon the straps or bands F, that are to cross over the shoulders and buckle around the body of the person carrying the umbrella.
It will be seen that this device will in no way interfere with the movement of the body or limbs of the person using it. It is especially adapted for negroes and others that work in cotton and cane fields, and will be of great service to all persons who are obliged to work exposed to the suns rays.
Having thus fully described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. In an umbrella-supporting device, the socket B, provided with springs O and holes b', and the supporting-tube D, provided with ring E, substantially as herein shown and described.
2. An umbrella-supporting device having socket B and supporting tube D, provided with buttons or studs c', in combination with the straps F, substantially as herein shown and described.
3. The combination of socket B, springs C, tube D, ring E, and straps F, constructed and arranged substantially as herein shown and described.
4. The combination of umbrella A, provided with pointed and notched handle, with socket B, springs C, tube D, ring E, and straps F, substantially as and for the purpose herein described.
THOMAS MORA.
