AUGUSTUS H. \VILSON AND XVILLIAM HARVEY, OF READFIELD, MAINE.
HALTER.
SPECIFICATION formingpart of Letters Patent No. 441,732, dated December 2, 1890.
Application filed March 8, 1890- Serial No. 343,198- (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that we, AUGUSTUS H. l/VIL- SON and WILLIAM HARVEY, both citizens of the United States, residing at Readtield, in the county of Kennebec and State of Maine, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Halters; and we do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description'of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form apart of this specification.
This invention relates to improvements in bridles and halters; and it consists in the construction and novel arrangement and c01nbination of parts, as will be hereinafter fully described.
The annexed drawings, to which reference is made, fully illustrate this invention, in which Figure 1 represents a side view of the hal ter, being the left-hand side. Fig. 2 is also a side View of the righthand side of the same. Fig. 3 is a rear view of the buckle, showing the skeleton frame and its inclined loops. Fig. 4 is a face View of the frame h of the halter. Fig. 5 is a perspective view of one of the clips.
Referring by letter to the accompanying drawings, a designates the headstall of the halter, c c the cheek-straps, and d and e the nose-strap and chin-strap. The headstall is connected at one end by a metal clip 9 to a sector-shaped wire frame 71, to which also one endof the cheek-strap c is secured by a clip 1', which, as all of the other clips, is secured to the leather or other material of which the flexible parts of the halter or bridle are constructed by rivets, which are upset in the usual manner. To the upper end of the cheek-strap c, and also to one end of the throat-strap 7c, is secured a combinedbuckle and frame Z, to the lower diversely and upwardly inclined portions of which, forming loops, are secured by clips the other end of the throat-strap and the upper end of the cheek-strap c. Theseloops, buckle, andframe,
cl is clipped, while the loop 1) serves to attach a bit to the halter byawell-known snap-hook in the usual manner. of the halter is a frame 11 having an upper loop I)", to which the lower end of the cheekstrap 0 is clipped, side loops 19 W, to which the nose and chin bands are secured, and-a central loop b to which a snap-hook is attached in securing a bit to said halter. The frame h has the inclined loops h h, upper loop 72/2, and inclined bars h all of which receive clips for securing the hcadstall, throatlatch, and cheek-strap c to one another, as clearly shown in Fig. 2 of the drawings. These clips m, as shown in Fig. 5 of the drawings, are provided with clinching-teeth n, which penetrate the flexible material and prevent clips from lateral movement, and are secured, further, by a rivet passing through the clip and leather.
The throat-strap is provided with a sliding strap r, which has connected to its lower end a ring 8, having a loop 15, a metal clip u and a riveto being employed to secure it in place.
The lead-strap of the halter is provided with a hook 20, which is connected to the strap by a clip w, screw-bolt y, and a nut z, havinga point which enters the clip and material. This modification is shown in Figs. 6, 7, and S.
There are no stitches, it will be seen, used in the construction of the bridle or halter,
and the bit may be connected with and dis connected from the cheek-pieces at pleasure, thus converting the halter into a bridle.
What we claim is The combination, with the buckle-frame, of the clip an, having attaching-spurs '11 the On the opposite side buckle-frame Z,.h:wing the loopsa a',.buck1e In testimony whereof we affix our signa- I), having the, upper'loop'b, front loop bithe tures in presenceof two Witnesses.
frame 11 havin upper loop I), side loops b 11 T and central 105p bfias specified, the straps 5 comprising the halter, and the frame h, consisting; of the diverging loops h h, heads tall l Vitnessesa and loop 7L2, rings, and strap 9', all-as and for HARRY C3. YVILSON; the purpose set forth. JAMES E. HARVEY.
