BRIDLE BIT.
Patented Nov. 25, 1890.
o 0 0 O a M i 4 MD UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
OLIVER II. ORENDORFF AND WILLIAM ORENDORFF, OF BLOOMINGTON,
' ILLINOIS.
BRlDLE-BIT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 441,505, dated. November 25, 1890. Application filed June 14, 1890- Serial No. 355,495- (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, OLIVER II. OREN- DORFF andWILLIAMAORENDoEEF, of Bloomington, in the county of McLean and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in BridleBits; and we do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
Our invention relates to improvements in bridle-bits, the object of the same being to provide an article of this character especially adapted for use as a curb.
A further object is to provide an article of this character which shall be simple and economical in construction and durable and efficient in use; and with these ends in View our invention consists in the certain features of construction and combinations of parts, as willbe hereinafter fully described, and pointed out in the claim.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of our invention, and Fig. 2 is a side view thereof.
The side frames of the bit are formed with the L-shaped arms A and B, and are connected together by means of the mouth-piece O, which is rigidly secured thereto. The ends of the arms A and B are provided with the transverse slot- D, adapted to receive the head-stall. The opposite ends of said arms are provided with the elongated slots E, adapted to receive the curb-bit F, made of chain, a straight or hinged bar, as preferred, the same being adapted to slide freely therein. The ends of the curb Fare provided with the eyes G to receive the rods H, which latter are provided with curb-rein. The opposite ends of the rods have secured thereto the chin-strap I.
It will be seen that by pulling on the cuibrein it will cause the curb-bit to separate from the main mouth-piece, and a positive 5 curb is thereby communicated.
Having fully described our invention, what we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The improved bridle-bit herein described 50 and shown, consisting of the L-shaped side arms A B, having the transverse slots D near the upper ends of their shorter arms and the elongated longitudinal slots E in their longer arms, the mouth-piece 0, connecting the side 55 arms and rigidly secured thereto at the angles thereof, the curb F,having its ends playing in the slots E, and provided with eyes G, the rods mounted in the eyes G, and having hooks at their ends, and the strap I, connect- 6o ing the lower ends of the said rods, as specified. Intestimony whereof we have signed this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
