lVALTER I. UNDERWOOD AND HENRY FRESE, OF ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI.
POLICEMANS CLUB.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 441,042, dated November 18, 1890.
Application filed May 19, 1890- Serial No. 352,392. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that we, WALTER I. UNDER- WOOD and HENRY FRESE, both of the city of St. Louis, in the State of Missouri, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Policemens Clubs, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming part of this specification.
Our invention relates to an improved club for use by policemen, the object being to make such a club which will be durable and which will at the same time have a certain elasticity, to avoid dangerous bruises upon the person receiving its blows.
Our invention consists, broadly, of such a club, formed with an inner portion or core of soft rubber and an outer coating or shell of a suitable composition which protects the rubber.
The figure is a perspective View, part in section, of, our improved club.
1 represents the inner or core. portion of the club, which is composedof soft rubber.
2 represents the coating or outer shell of some stiff composition, which is formed closely around the soft-rubber core, so as to protect it and provide for a certain amount of rigidity. This outer shell, though of less elasticity than the soft-rubber core, maintains a certain amount of flexibility for the above-stated ob ject. A good coating for this purpose is composed of fifteen parts of bisulphide of carbon, one and one-half part spirits of turpentine,
' one and one-half part naphtha, twelve parts
