BROOM.
No. 139,470l Patented Oct. 28, 1890.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.,
JOIIN H. BRINKOP, OF QUINOY, ILLINOIS.
BROOM.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 439,470, dated October 28, 1890.
Application iiled .Iuly 2S, 1890.
To all whom it may can/cern.-
Beit known that I, JOHN II. BRINKOP, a citizen of the United States of America, residingl at Quincy, in the count-y of Adams and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Brooms, of which the following is a specification.
It is the object of my invention to provide a broom with means whereby it may be hung up when not in use, the invention being applicable to house-brooms, whisk-brooms, and the like.
In carrying out my invention I combine with the body of the broom an eye or ferrule passing through the same between the straws from side to side, so that when not in use it may be hung up by this means, the nail or supporting-peg extending through the opening in the eye or ferrule.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a front View of the broom, and Fig. 2 a central section of the same.
In the drawings the broom is of ordinary construction, having the usual binding-cords l 2. The eye or ferrule A is preferably made of metal, and it is inserted through the broom Serial No. 360,125. (No model.)
up near the head, the straws and broom-corn being spread apart to admit it.
The ferrule is constructed of two sections 3 4, each of which has a flange 5, and in placing4 the eye or ferrule through t-he broom one section tits tightly within the other, and the two sections are forced together until the flanges bear closely upon the sides of the broom. The ferrule is preferably located between the binding-cords l 2, and the straws being held bythe same against undue spreading exert a pressure against the ferrule, and thus retain it in place.
I claim as my invent-ion- In combination with a broom, an eye or ferrule extending through the same between the straws and the binding-cords, one above and the other below the ferrule, whereby the straws are firmly held about the ferrule to retain the saine, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
JOHN H. BRINKOP.
