UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ROBERT E. GOPSON, OF OMAHA, NEBRASKA.
BROOM OR BRUSH BRIDLE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 390,005, dated September 25, 1888. Application filed December 21, 1887. Serial No. 258,554. (No model.)
To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, ROBERT E. CoPsoN, of Omaha, in the county of Douglas and State of Nebraska, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Brooms, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the annexed drawings, forming a part thereof, in which Figure 1 is aside elevation of a broom having my improvement applied thereto, and Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the bridle.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both views.
My invention relates to broom or brush bridles; and it consists in the particular construction of the same, as hereinafter fully described, and pointed out in the claim.
In the drawings, the broonrcorn forming the head Aof the broom is secured to the handle B by means of the wire 0 in the usual way. The end of the handle B inelosed by the broomhead is cut off square, as indicated in dotted lines, and in the handle is preferably inserted a pin, D, which extends through the longer diameter of the broom-head and forms a support for the lateral portions which inclose it.
The broom-corn is provided with two rows, (0, of stitching in the usual way, and between the rows of stitching the broom-head is encircled by the bridle, as shown in Fig. l. The bridle consists of the oblong wire loop E, provided with an arm, F, having in the end thereof an eye, by In the eye b is inserted a wire nail, c, which is driven into the inner end of the handle 13. The bridleis simple and cheap, and effectually retains the broom-head in position.
The broom may have any desired number of rows of stitching.
Having thus described my invention,I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- As an improved article of manufacture,,a broom-bridle consisting of a single piece of wire bent to form the loop E, and the upwardly-projecting arm F, having the eye I), as set forth.
ROBERT E. COPSON.
