SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 438,770, dated October 21, 1890.

To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, JOHN THOMAS WHIL- DEN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Stockton, in the county of Clinch and State of Georgia, have invented a new and useful Stamp-Package, of which the following is a specification.

The object of this invention is to provide a convenientmeans forpackingpostage-stamps and to accomplish the same in such a manner as to adapt them for transportation and preservation, and, furthermore, to provide a device for holding the package whereby one or a series of stamps may be removed.

With the above objects in view the invention consists in certain features of construction, hereinafter specified, and particularly pointed out in the claims.

Referring to the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective of a stamp-package constructed in accordance with my invention. Fig. 2 is a similar view showing the manner of forming the package. Fig. 3 is a transverse view. Fig. 4 is a detail in perspective of the holder. Fig. 5 is a transverse section of the holder, the package therein.

Like numerals of reference indicate like parts in all the figures of the drawings.

1 represents a central cylindrical core, of wood or other like material, the ends of which are provided with circular flanges or heads 2, and from the centers of the heads there proj cct outwardly axial trunnions 3 of cone shape.

4 represents a strip of paraffine paper of a width agreeing with the distance between the heads2, and one end of said paper is pasted to the periphery of the core 1.

5 represents a web of postage-stamps, the width of which comprises such a number as agrees with the width of the paraffine paper. The end of the web of stamps is inserted between the paraffine paper and the core, the mucilaged surface of the stamps being arranged adjacent to the paper. By revolving the core the web of stamps and paper are wound upon the core until the package is completed. The leading end of the paraffine paper projects beyond that of the stamps and is pasted upon itself so as to inclose the stampweb. Previous to pasting the end of the paraffine paper a string 6 is laid transversely under the same, so that by drawing upon the (No model.)

string the paraffine paper may be severed, and thus the leading end of the web of stamps exposed.

The package thus formed may be conveniently transported or carried without any liability of the stamps adhering to each other or to adjacent surfaces, and they will also be preserved in a flat condition, clean and unbroken.

I have provided a holder especially adapted to receive packages of stamps thus formed, and from which the web of stamps may be withdrawn as required. This holder comprises a U-shaped holding-frame 8 of a size adapted to receive the package, and within the holding-frame the spring-tongue 9, the free end of which rests against the package. The ends 9* of the frame are extended below the same to form feet 10, which are perforated to receive screws, whereby the holder may be socured to any fixed object-as, for instance, a base, desk, or wall. Concentric with the holder the ends are provided with indentations or bearings 11, adapted to receivethe cone-shaped trunnions 3 of the package, and from one of the bearings to the outer edge of the end there is formed a groove 12, whereby the package may be withdrawn and replaced for the purpose of renewal.

Having thus described myinvention, what I claim is 1. The herein-described package, consisting of an inner core, a strip of ,paraffine paper having one end secured thereto, and an interposed web of stamps having its mucilaged surface adjacent to the paraffine paper, the paper and Web being wound upon the core, substantially as specified.

2. The herein-described package, consisting of an inner core provided with opposite circular heads or flanges, a strip of paraffine pa per having one end secured to the core and a web of stamps interposed between the core and paper and having its mucilaged surface adjacent to the paper, said paper being extended beyond the leading end of the stamps and pasted to itself, substantiallyas specified.

The herein-described package, consisting of an inner cylindrical core having opposite heads and trunnions, a strip of paraffine paper having one end :cemented to the core, and a web of stamps interposed between the paper and core and the two Wound upon the core, said strip having its leading end overlapping the end of the Web and pasted upon itself and provided with a severing string or thread ar- 5 ranged under the strip, substantially as specified.
