MARY ANN RAGSDALE, OF GRASS VALLEY, CALIFORNIA.
IMPROVED MEDICINE FOR CURE OF SCARLATINA, SORE THROAT, &c.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 43,866, dated August 16, 1864.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MARY ANN RAGSDALE, of the township of Grass Valley,in the county of Nevada and State of California, have invented and compounded a new and efficient Medicine for the Cure of Scarlatina, Scarlet Rash, Group, SoreThroat, and Hoarseness,&c.; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description of said medicine as invented and compounded by meto wit: two dra-rns of gum-myrrh; four drains of cayenne pepper, pulverized; fourdrams of strained honey; two drains of table-salt; two pounds of(0ne quart) strong vinegar, which compound is used as a gargle; and the other and accompanying medicine invented and compounded by me is composed of an herb known as dogfennel and hogs lard in the following proportions: dog-fennel, one ounce; sweet fresh lard, two ounces, which is used as an ointment, and also taken internally until it produces nausea,
the dose being varied according to the a go and condition of the patient, the usual dose as given by me being for a child ten drops, for a child ten years old twenty drops, and for an adult thirty to forty drops.
I WhatI claim as myinvention and compound, and for which I desire to secure Letters Patent of the Government of the United States, is-
The ointment and gargle compounded as herein described, the same being a new manufacture.
In testimony whereof I-have hereunto set my hand, this 28th day of April, A. D. 1864, at the town of Grass Valley, Nevada county and State of California.
