SADDLERS KNIFE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 436,479, dated September 16, i890.
Application filed April 25, 1890. Serial No. 349,549. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.:
Be it known that I, PHILIP HISE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Cincinnati, in the county of Hamilton and State of Ohio,
have invented a new and useful Saddlers ture of less pressure than has heretofore been possible.
The invention consists in the construction hereinafter fully described, illustratedin the accompanying drawing, and pointed out in the claims hereto appended. I
In the drawing, the figure represents a side elevation of a knife constructed in accordance with this invention.
Referring to the accompanying drawinggl designates a blade suitably secured to a handle 2, and provided at its front or cuttingedges with a convex portion 4, that extends from one end 5 of the blade beyond the middle and blends with and merges in areversely curved or concave portion 6, that extends from the convex or outward-curved portion 4 to the other end 7 of the blade, and the rear edge 8 of the end7 of the blade is curved and adapted to elevate the cutting-edge of the knife and prevent the saine contacting with and injuring the board while cutting beneath the leather. This construction of end enables the knife to be easily guided through the leather without injuring the board, and is also a great advantage in tapering or skiving. The knife in cutting is held perpendicular to the leather and is pushed through the saine, and the curved edge 8 rests upon the board and the point of the lknife is beneath the leather during cutting.
It will readily be seen that the knife is simple and inexpensive in construction, and is adapted to out evenly with a small amount of pressure and can be readily guided through the leather Without liability of injuring the board.
IVhat I claim isl. A leather-cutting knife having a blade l, provided with the outwardly or convexly curved cutting-edge 4 and the inwardly or concavely curved cutting-edge 6, forming a continuation of the edge 4 and providing a point 7, substantially as and for the purpose described.
2. A blade for leather-cutting knives, having the outwardly or conveXlv curved cutting portion 4 and the inwardly or concavely curved cutting portion 6, forming a continuation of the portion 4 and provided with the curved rear edge 8, substantially as and for the purpose described.
