BUILDING-FRONT COLUMN.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 435,849, dated September 2, 1890.
Application filed January 16, 1890. Serial No. 337,066.
T0 at whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANK MESKER, of St. Louis, Missouri, have made a new and useful Improvement in Building-Front Columns, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The improvement relates to what are termed an gle-columns, and it consists, substantially, of a combination of a metallic face and a single thick side, said side being at tached to said face at the inner edge thereof and being braced from its back to the outer edge of said face, and more especially as is hereinafter set forth and claimed, aided by the annexed drawings, making part of this specification, in which Figure l is a front elevation of the improved column, and Fig. 2 an elevation of the inner side thereof; Fig. 3, a horizontal section of the column, and Fig. 4 a horizontal section of the column in positi'on.
The last two views are upon an enlarged scale.
The same letters of reference denote the same parts.
A represents the column-face. At its outer and inner edges, respectively, it is provided with flanges a and a. Brepresents the side.

It is united to the face by means of fastenings b, which pass through the flange a into the side, substantially as shown. The side at its front face should also abut against the back of the face A to obtain the best results, and the column is completed by means of the braces C, which at one end are riveted to the face-flange a, and at the other end are bolted to the side B at the back thereof. The side in practice is of wood. The column-face may be more or less ornamented, as desired.
D represents the wall to which the column is adapted, and the mode of combining the column and wall is illustrated generally in Fig. a.
I claim-- The herein-described an gle-colum n, consisting of the flanged face and the side, said side being attached to said face at the inner edge thereof and at its back being braced to said face at the outer edge thereof, as set forth.
