IMPROVEMENT IN OIL-CANS.

Be it known that I, ELIPHALET S. SCRIP- TURE, of Brooklyn, Kings county, State of New York, haveinvented, made, and applied to use certain new and useful Improvements in the Construction and Operation of Oil- Gans, and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and correct description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making part of this specification, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, in which- Figure l is Aan exterior view showing the iiexible bottom A and concave sectional bottom or thumb-piece B; Fig. 2, an interior view of the same; Fig. 3, a view of concave sectional bottom or thumb-piece B; Fig. 4, a sectional view showing body of the oilcan,
spiral spring, and sectional bottom and flexible bottom, as combined.
In the drawings,V like parts of the invention are indicated by the same letters of reference.
The nature of my invention consists (a) in the use or employment of the flexible bottom A, constructed as shown, in combination with the concave sectional bottom or thumb-piece B, for the purposes speciiied; (11,) in the use or employment of the iiexible bottom A, constructed as shown, in combination with the concave sectional, bottom or thumb-piece B, spiral spring and can, for the purpose or purposes hereinafter set forth.
To enable those skilled yin the art to make and use my invention, I will describe its construction and operation.
A shows a flexible bottom, formed of tin, zinc, or any suitable metal, which iieXible bottom A is provided with the concave sectional bottom B. This exible bottom A is provided with a central opening, a, while the concave sectional bottom or thumb-piece B is provided with the groove b. .'Ihe concave sectional bottom or thumb-piece B may be soldered to the iiexible bottom A, or may be held in position by having a screw-thread cut upon it, working in harmony with a screw-thread upon the bottom A.
S shows a spiral spring inserted within the can l?, one end of which spiral spring S bears directly against the interior of the can P, di.- rectly below the opening for thereception of the spout, while its other end rests in the groove b of the concave sectional bottom or thumb-piece B. This spring S is employed for the purpose of giving flexibility and elasticityl to the bottom A.
The bottom A, constructed as shown, is soldered to the can P, the spiral spring S is inserted, and the concave sectional bottom or thumb-piece B-is closed over and upon the spiral spring S by soldering, screwing, or otherwise, the spring S resting, as previously stated, in the groove b in the concave sectional bottom or thumb-piece B, and being steadied laterally by means of the central opening, a, in the bottom A and the groove l).
