. useful Improvements in IIame-Tugs, of which the following is a speciiication.

The object of my invention is to provide a cheap durable haine-tug, in which the tugeye may be attached and detached aft-er the tug is finished, for t-he purpose of connecting and disconnecting the tug and haine.

The invention will be first fully described in connection with the accompanying drawings, after which the novel features will be particularly referred to, and pointed out in the claims.

Referring to the drawings, in which like parts are indicated by similar reference-letters wherever they occur throughout the various Views, Figure 1 is an edge elevation of the draft-bar and tug-eye attached. Fig. 2 is a plan View ot' the same. Fig. 3 is a longitudinal central section through the haine-tu g, showing the metallic parts in elevation, as in Fig. l; but the tug-eye in this view isa modified form of my invention. Figui is a detail view in elevation of another modification of the tug-eye, which is made in two similar parts.

Referring to the parts, A represents the leather portion of the haine-tug, B the cus tomary box-loop, and` C the trace-buckle. These are constructed in the usual manner, and need not be specifically described. My draft-bar D is a Iiat strip of metal having flanges or lugs d turned in opposite directions at its forward end to bear against the opposite edges of the Iiattened slianks c of the tug-eye E. The bar D extendsfroln near the buckle to the opposite end of the tug, and is perforated at one end to receive the rivet a, which secures the bar and tug together. The bar is also perforated at the forward end to pass the screw G, which passes through the front of the tug, the outer half of the tugshank, the bar D, and is tapped into the inner half of the shank e for the purpose of clamping the end of the bar firmly between the shank of the tug-eye and fastening the parts together.

My preferred form of tug-eye (shown in Figs. l and 2) is hinged at c', so that the shanks e may be readily separated for the purpose of attaching the tug to the draft-eye F of the llame, instead of forcing the shanks e apart and again pressing them together afwould be the case if the tug-eye audits shanks were made in one piece, as shown in Fig. 3.

In the modification shown in Fig. 4 the shanks c are the same as in the preceding figures, but the eye is formed in Lhalves, so that when separated, as shown, each half forms an open hook to catch in the draft-eye F; but. when the Shanks are clamped upon each side of the draw-bar the parts of the eye match together, forming a close joint.

To detach the tug from the hame, the screw 4 G is taken out, when the tu g-eye may be withdrawn from the tug and unhooked from the draft-eye F. It will thus be seen that the bar D gives strength and rigidity to the tug, and that the leather-work may be entirely finished before the metal parts are applied, and thatthe tug-eye is readily detached and replaced without mari-ing the leather finish.

l. A draft-barand detachable tug-eye for hame-tugs, consisting of the metal bar D, a tug-eye having shanks to pass upon each side of said bar, and a screw to detachably connect the said bar and tug-eye, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.

2. The combination,substantially as specitied, of the tug-eye E, having Shanks e. and hinged at c', and the draft-bar D and screw G to detachably connect said tug-eye and draft-bar.

3. The combination, in a haine-tug, of the draft-bar I), having lugs d at its forward end, the tug-eye E, having shauks c to pass upon each side ot' the bar between said lugs, and the screw G, substantially as shown and described.
