IMPROVED HORSESHOE.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 43,293, dated J une 2S, 1864.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE GUsrEE, of Monroe, in the county of Monroe and State of Michigan. have invented a new and useful Improvement in Horseshoes; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making a part of this specification, in which- Figure l is an under side or face view of a horseshoe constructed according to my invention; Fig. 2, a section of a portion of the same, taken in the line a: Fig. 8; Fig. 3, a top view of a portion of the same.

To enable those skilled in the art to fully understand and construct my invention, I will proceed to describe it.
A represents a horseshoe constructed in the usual form, and provided with nailholes a, which arecountersunk at the under side of the shoe, as shown at b in Figs. l and 2. These holes a are countersunlr -at'the same time the holes are punched, the punch or instrument being so constructed as to admit of this result. The countersunk portions b are of oblong or elliptical form, (see Fig. 1,) so as to receive the heads of theI nails properly. The other portion of the under side of the shoe is lperfectly smooth, it not being provided with any other indentations, creases, or grooves Whatever, and the shoe consequently may be constructed at a much less cost than the ordinary shoe, having a continuous crease or groove at each side ofV it, the forming of which is attended with considerable expense.
I am aware that the parts of my invention, separately considered, are old; but,
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, as an improved article of manufacture- A horseshoe constructed in the specific manner herein represented and described.
