DETERGENT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 432,437, dated July 15, 1890.
Application filed September 13, 1889. Serial No. 323,869. ($pecimens.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, PETER K. POST, J r., of the city, county, and State of Ne\vYork,have invented a new and useful W'ashing Compound for use in Laundries, for Toilet and other Purposes, of which the following is a specification.
The compound consists of the following ingredients, combined in the proportions stated, viz: refined borax, one pound; spirits of ammonia, eight ounces. The refined borax is to be saturated with the spirits of ammonia in about the proportions above stated. This will produce a paste-like or semi-solid substance.
In using the above-named compound for laundry purposes, for instance, a table-spoonful of the compound is added to every pailful of the water to be used in soaking and in washing the clothes. For toilet purposes a table-spoonful of the compound is placed in the bath-tub. Used in this way it gives absolute cleanliness, destroys all odor arising from perspiration,and leaves the skin of the bather in a perfectly smooth, soft, andhealthy condition.
When the compound is applied to bites or stings of insects, it instantly stops all pain and irritation and eifects a rapid cure. It can also be used for cleaning glass, silver, crockery, and other articles.
Having thus fully described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- As a new article of manufacture, a detergent compound in the form of a paste or semisolid, consist-ingof boraxsaturated with spirits of ammonia, substantially as set forth.
