UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ALICE L. HOBBS, ()F KALAMAZOO, MICHIGAN.
HAIR BANG.
SPEGIFIGATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 431,892, dated July 8, 1890.
Application filed September 18, 1888. serial No. 285,681. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I,AL1CE L. IIOBBs, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Kalamazoo, in the county of Kalamazoo and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hair Bangs; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accom'pan yin g drawings, and to letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
Figure 1 of the drawings is a representation of this invention, and shows a vertical section through the bang and its position upon. the head. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the under side of the bang.
This invention has relation to artificialhair bangs or fronts; and its object is to provide a hair hang of raised form which will hold the artificial hair of the ban g in its middle portion out of contact with the hair of the wearer. In this manner it is designed to provide free circulation of air between the body of the front and the head or natural hair of the wearer, so that danger to the front by the action of perspiration is avoided, and great comfort to the wearer, as well as a light and airy appearance, is secured.
In constructing this front or bang I provide a netting B, of arched or hollow shape, to which the curled hair indicated at A is secured, and a dom e-shaped frame 0 is also provided, to which the netting is attached. This frame may be made of light spring wire, or sheet metal, or any springy substance, as indicated, the portions 1) extending upward and converging to support the netting of the front or ban g in raised or dome shape. The front is designed, to be secured to the framing by sewing or otherwise, and when in position upon this framing a chamber or hollow E is formed in the under side or beneath the netting.
The front or hang can be secured to the wearers hair in the usual manner by means of hair-pins, and the artificial hair projecting over the edges of the netting completely hides the frame from view. As the curvature of the frame is greater than that of the top of the hair, the bang will only touch the head by the edges, and its middle portion wilibe raised above the natural hair. It is designed to provide these raised-hair structures of different heights and of various shapes to suit the contour of different faces.
Having described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 1s
1. A raised hair bang or front consisting of a frame having upward-convcrging portions and a dome-shaped or raised ncttin g provided with artificial hair and secured to said frame, substantially as specified.
2. A raised hair bang or front having an under frame formed with upward-convergin g portions and covering said frame, a netting provided with artificial hair in raised form, the ban g having a curvature greater than that of the head, substantially as specified.
3. A raised hair ban g front having an under frame of springy material formed with upward-converging portions and a netting pro vided with artificial hair eavering said frame, substantially as specified.
In testimony whereof "I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
ALICE L. lIOBl-BS.
