UNITED STATES PATENT trice.'-
lM PROVED CLAMP FOB. WPLINGEPLS.
Spcciticati'on forming part of Letters Patent No. 43,089, dated June 14, 1864.A
Be it known that I, THOMAS BRooKs,o Middlefield, county of Middlesex, and State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Clamps for Holding Wringing-Machinesto aTub, tbc.; and I do hereby declare that the saine is described and represented in the following specification and drawings and to enable others skilled in the i art to make and use same, I will proceed to describe its construction-'mid operation, re ferring to the drawings, in which the same let- The nature ofthis improvement will be fully understood from the drawings and specification.'
The object desired to be attained by .this improvement in wringing-machines isto provide therefor a elamp, such as will readily adjust itself to the side ot' any vessel without reference to its shape.
In the accompanying, drawings, Figure l is a side view of a wringing-machine having my improvement attached thereto, as shown below the r'ed'line. Fig.' 2 is a' section of the clamp. Fig. Sis a section of one jaw of the clamp.
B is one of the jawsvof the clamp, made in C is another jaw, also made in'a fixed position to the Wringer. Dis an intermediate jaw, and is made in'two parts,`as shown in Fig. 3, the upper end, d, of which is steadied in place by working` inthe orifice G. a is a globular socket formed by a milling-tool in the ordinary Way. These two parts are secured together by the use of rivets ori screws b. E is a screw fitted to one of the jawsB C, the` inner endet-Which isprovided with a globular-shaped ball @,made so as to t and play easily in the socket a. F represents the side of a vessel on which thisl clamp may ne secured. NOW, it will be seen that a`wringer having this clamp may be readily and, easily attached to any vessel,A whether it'be made squareor round, large or smal-l, or whether the sides` be perpendicular or otherwise, as the adjustable feature `oi' the jaw will enable it to tind its bearing when the screw E is firmly turned up.
This improvement, though simple in itselt, is ot' the greatest importance in practical use.
I havethusendeavored to show the i;iature,
construction, and advantage of my improvement-,so as to enable a person skilled to make and use the same.
What I' claim, therefore, and desire to se- THOMAS BROOKS. Witnesses H. (l. ROBINSON, JEREMY W. lLiss..
