FELIX TYLEE, OF CLEVELAND, OHIO.
WINDOW WASHER AND WIPER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 430,047, dated June 10, 1890.
Application led September 26, 1889. Serial No. 325,159. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FELIX TYLEE, of the city of Cleveland, in the county of Cuyahoga and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in VVindow Washers and Wipers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to window washers and wipers; and it consists in the construction and novel combination of parts, as hereinafter described, and pointed out in the claims. I attain these results by the mechanism illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure l is a front elevation of the entire brush or implement. Fig. 2 is a side view of my invention. Fig. 3 is a perspective View, partly in Section, of the water-cylinder F, showing the safety dripplate ct attached thereto.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention, I will describe it more fully, referring to the drawings and letters marked thereon.
Fig. 1 is a front elevation of my improved window washer and wiper having a wooden handle or pole B, and having a water-aperture through the central portion of the same, as shown in dotted lines in Fig. 1. The handle B is mounted at either end with ferrules having suitable threads cut on the outer surface at one end to receive a hose-pipe G,
While the thread at the opposite end isfittedl with a screw-thread on the inner surface to receive a gas-pipe fitting or water-stop cock b, which is connected to a coupling B', attached to a gas-pipe connected to a water-cylinder F, provided with a central boss or suitable connection to receive a gas-pipe. The cylinder F is provided with metal caps G, having an L shaped shank, they having apertures to receive screws to secure the cylinder F to the back of the brush A. The water-cylinderF is provided with apertures f, which extend nearly the entire'length of the cylinder. Above the cylinder is located and secured a safety drip-plate ct, which is closely fitted to the cylinder at its lower edge, while the opposite edge is iirmly secured to the brush A. To the side of the brush A are viitted strap-hinges c c at .either end ofthe brush, and at the outer or upper end of the strap-hinges c c are mounted and secured a metal clamping device C, which is formed with an offset to furnish ampleA space to insert a piece of rubber D, which is held firmly in place by means of rivets d d. The rubber D is designed to wipe and dry thev window when in position, as shown in Fig. l, and is made adjustable and may be turned down out of the way when desired, as shown in dotted lines in Fig. 2, and held in place by a spring F..
Having thus described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States of America, is.-
l. In a window Washer and wiper, the combination of a brush, a hollow handle having a sprinkler attached to the brush, a dripplate fixed between the brush and the sprinkler, and anadj ustable wiper attached to one side of the brush, substantially as described.v
2. In a window washer and Wiper, the handle or pole B, having a longitudinal wateraperture b', provided with suitable iittings to receive water-hose and gas-pipe connections, in combination with water-cylinder F, having apertures f, safety drip-plate a, and brush A, as and for the purpose specified.
3. In a window washer and wiper, the handle or pole B, having a longitudinal wateraperture b', having suitable iittings t0 receive water-hose and gas-pipe connections, in combination with a stop-cock b, gas-pipe B, water-cylinder F, safety drip-plate a, brush A, strap-hinges c c, rubber-holder C, rubber D, and rivet d, substantially as and for the purpose herein specified.
FELIX TYLEE. Witnesses:
H. RoosE, H. P. BATES.
